Young Arizona

Tuesday morning I headed out to visit Young, Arizona. I had never ridden from the Roosevelt Dam to Young before so it was all new to me. The weather was perfect and mid-week traffic in the back country is light. I traveled almost 100 miles of dirt road and only saw four vehicles.

The 950 ran like a champ until I hit 6500'. I had to do a little tweaking with the idle to smooth things out.

Heading out of town via Apache Trail and the Superstition Mtns.

All the lakes are near full now. Canyon Lake.

AAAhhhhhh, Lots of dirt....

Roosevelt Bridge.

The "one hand riding over the bridge-hope I don't need the clutch shot"

The Young Rd (S.R.288) above Lake Roosevelt.

The terrain changes form desert the forest very fast.

Pleasant Valley and the Town of Young.

Lunch Break in Young.

Fun water crossing (crappy action shot!).

Back on the pavement. Fueled up in Payson and could't resist a little treat...

Spare parts anyone? Rye, Az

So 300 miles later I made it home. Had a great time but I need someone to take pictures of. A riderless KTM isn't very exciting subject matter. Later....

Great pictures! I fixed your links for you. You just need to put after the links.

Nice pics....man, I love ridin' the Apache Trail. Close to home
and always a blast. How was lunch at Alice's? I've yet to do the
ride to Young, but it's on my list.

Nice pics and ride. BTW, did you stop and read that sign just south of Young. IIRC it's about the Pleasant Valley war.

Yes, found the sign. Funny thing is I have lived in Az for 28 years and never read or heard about the Pleasant Valley War. It's amazing what you learn on those roadside signs .

Beem, the roads are wonderful right now (Young & Apache) because of recent grading. Alice's was good food and friendly folks. It's located on the north end of town on a hillside with great views of PV.

Nice report and photos, thank you for sharing. I too have done the Apache Trail - Young ride and it is always fun except in winter when 288 to Young can be a real bear with ice and packed snow, and if you do not have knobbies the mud is no fun.

I'm heading to Mesa next week and will be in the area till mid January or so. I make this trip every winter to see the folks. I normally take the Buell but tis time ill be on the WR250R. I've made the Apachie Junction-Young-Payson trip before, once at night in a rain storm. I'm always looking for a new challenge, if any of you locals feel like riding in the next few weeks let me know.
