Ok. Now here is where it starts to get really cool.

The Manager had to drive ahead of the bikes since the animals are used to the Land Rover.

But look at what is ahead of the vehicle to the right in the distance.

I could not resist, I pulled around the Land Rover. In my book, here's the shot of the trip. Totally made my day...Yup that is me!

Nice post and great photos...what kind of camera do you have?

Very nice photos, so I was wondering what kind of camera
do you have? Which leads me to my next question...If you were
doing the same trip again, would you still use the same camera
and equipment or what changes you make.
You have framed your photos nicely.
Keep them coming

Well...I have to be truthful here...

I have great, great friends. Who all have the coolest camera equipment. It became evident on the first day that I was not going to take many photos with my little Canon. They just weren't going to stack up against a Rebel XT SLR, Pentax SLR, Canon Powershot with like 7+megapixels. So I let everyone else take the photos (sure I clicked off a few here and there), and then waited til the end and dumped everyone else's photos onto my portable hard drive. I came home with 21gb of photos!

Sorting thru them has taken me forever and I found some more great ones last nite.

So in all fairness. 97.786% of these photos were taken by my friends. Have I told you how great my friends are

There were giraffes all around us. It was an amazing experience.

Here's Rolf, our guide and owner of Great African Outdoors. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!

The whole scene was completely surreal to all of us.

One more because it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

So after the whole invasion of giraffe, we decided to head off to the dam to have our sundowners.

Bye Bye guys

The view was beautiful as we got to the dam.

After sundowners at the dam we headed back to the lodge where much eating and drinking ensued. It was great.

A discussion and plan was put into place for the next day. We were heading into Mozambique (Moz), capital city Maputo and the border crossing could take hours. So we planned to get an early start.

After dropping the bike again a few times heading out of Hongonyi we were on the road again.

Watch out for hippo crossings

After a brief stop, I discovered that my GS was leaking oil from the site glass. Raised a bit of a concern for me since once we head into Moz, there is no dealer around in case anything went wrong.

So we sidetracked to the dealer in Nelspruit who was closed but a tech met us and said no worries. It was a weeping seal and just to keep an eye on it.

Onto Moz.

We get to the border and can you say chaos....

Thanks all for your comments. Like I said, this trip meant a lot to me because I have this intense love for Africa (this was my 9th trip there), a passion for riding and to be enjoying it with my closest friends of many years was over the top. It was and still is an amazing trip to me. I was not going to do a ride report because it also turned out to be an intensely personal and emotional trip. But based on everyone's response and interest, I am really glad I decided to do the ride report.

Keep staying tuned. You will learn more about the thread's title. Posting as I can. This work thing just seems to get in the way of everything I want to do in my life!

So after about 3 hrs in the hot sun waiting at the border of Moz and our passports in the hands of 'handlers' (talk about being nervous...) we manage to get our passports back and get through the border. We are in Moz and on our way to Maputo.

Moz had a devasting civil war from the 80's into ~ 1992. The poverty and devastation is still evident in many areas while some areas are becoming thriving resorts again.

More random shots along the EN4 up to Maputo.
