Was this a "package" tour?

No. Great African Outdoors www.african-outdoors.com does offer a lot of package tours. But we contracted them out for our group specifically and told them what we wanted. The trip went thru a variety of changes, in both routing and people over the 8 months or so we planned it.

Because we were all friends, it definitely did not have a group tour package feel to it at all...

I would definitely do another trip with them. 2009 has been in discussion with the group. Maybe Namibia But then I woul dhave to improve on my off road skills exponentially between now and then

Because of the delay with my weeping site glass and the time at the border, we did not arrive in Maputo until just around nitefall.

Unfortunately, I have no pics of riding into Maputo since it was already dark. But it was surreal. Like being in a video game. Weaving in and out of massive amounts of traffic and avoiding the infamous 'African Taxi Cabs', people in the streets, scooters, cars, you name it. It was soooooo cool!

But we finally arrived at the hotel in Maputo and promptly cleaned up to eat tons of fresh seafood and drink some good grog.

The next morning, we awoke to breakfast outside overlooking this. Not a bad view...

After breakfast we head up the coast to Xai Xai. Riding out of Maputo was really fun and here are some more amazing images.

In Maputo traffic

A local joins us

Now starting to get out of the central business district, there is all sorts of stuff on the road

And we encounter the first of many police checkpoints in Moz. We as a group never got stopped. But we were told that if we were solo riders, we would surely be stopped and harassed.

Shortly thereafter, we decide to make our first stop along the way to Xai Xai to have a cool drink and take it all in.

An infamous 'African Taxi Cab' stopping for a pickup. They say that the hippo is the most dangerous animal in Africa. Well, I beg to differ, these cabs are!

As we were hanging out, we met these kids

I bought them a coke and made their day
