Eastern Oregon Desert Trip - Misc Pics

Here are a few pictures from my families trips into the Desert of Eastern Oregon. We take a week long trip once a year into the desert and look for old abandoned houses, mines ect to explore. Hope you like the pics.

My old XR400R, Sitting on the lake bed of the Alvord Desert. This lake bed is so cool, rock hard and miles long and wide. Great place to see what your bike will top out at.

Old Abandoned Ranch in the middle of now where. Must of been a hard life out here.

Larger Picture of the Ranch.

Found the Dump, every old ranch has to have one some where. Lots of fun looking around here.

Pretty wild home made fork lift. The welds were terrible!

Found this up on a hill not far from the ranch. Later some "locals" told me a bank robber had passed through the area and was involved in this shooting.

Resting by a vertical mine shaft, over looking the Alvord Lake bed. We found several entrances to mines in the area.
They were Cinibar mines, (Mercury mines).

Miles of Nothing! So Cool!!! really needed larger tanks.

Thick nasty mud.

Cool old cellar, roof way built using old flattened oil cans!

Natural Spring. Nothing like nice cool water on a hot day in the Desert.

Only place we could get out on our cell phones to call home.

The view was endless.

The great Green dirt bike hauler on the Alvord Lake Bed. It's a Mercedes Unimog 404 - Ex Swiss Military. Hauled the bikes and a 55 gal drum of extra fuel in the back. Also made a great tent to sleep in at night.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Thanks for the comments. You'll love the Alvord desert. I can tell you where to find a few mines to explore if you like.

Here are a few more pics I came across.

Another shot in the Steen Mountains, Above the Alvord Lake Bed

Every Adventure Riders Dream, a natural Hot Springs way out in the middle of the Desert. This is the Alvord Hot Springs. We camped about 6 miles across the lake bed from it and made a nightly trip on the bikes for a nice long soak after a hard days ride. It consists of two pools, one in the open and the other with a wind break around it. You can regulate the temp by lowering the piece of irrigation pipe down, this lets the water from the hot springs flow into the pool. Its Very hot and you can make the pool as warm as you like.

There are other hot springs in the area also, this one is the best though.

Another abandoned house out in the desert. Always fun to explore.

Yet another abandoned house. This one had a few pretty cool out buildings as well, and a really cool hand dug well.

This one was taken on the trip home, we just left the Alvord and decided to drive up to this lake. Should have brought some fishing gear.

One of the three mines we found on that trip. There was quite a bit of old equipment laying around outside this one. There was also an old miners cabin still standing about a 1/2 mile down the mountain from it. You could still see some of the cinibar veins.
