Question Route suggestions in Idaho/Oregon?

Hey guys, while in our trip we're soon going to head South from Nelson to Hells Canyon and then somehow reach San Francisco. Any roads suggestions or place to see/stay on the way?

Keeping it simple ... don't miss the drive to the "living ghost town" of Silver City, and the Owyhee Uplands National Back Country Byway (both in the vast, remote and spectacular southwestern corner of Idaho; watch for wild horses), and continue south through the hamlet of Jarbidge, Nevada, and on to Elko, Nevada, and Interstate 80, which will take you to Reno, Nevada, across the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on into San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. You will find this very rewarding.

At Reno (or before), you could make your way on U.S. 395 south along the awesome eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada to the village of Lee Vining, then turn onto paved Tioga Road through Yosemite National Park, and then on to the Bay Area (with a detour into Yosemite Valley if you wish).

I know these regions well. PM me if you want more information.

Happy trails!

Cool, thanks!

OK, so I found Silver City on the Garmin map and it seems that it would be a great destination. About the Elko area though, I've done some exploring North of it while at the KTM rally of last year so I might want to try something new. What about the dirt road from Harper (West of Ontario) to Fields, then Denio to Alturas?

Then I have something good planned from that area to SF...

Thanks again for your help!

Hi Jean-Luc,

I rode H66 from Klamath Falls (Altemont) east to west towards Siskiyou (H5) in southern Oregon a couple of weeks ago. Its smooth twisty tarmac through the mountain forests, with awesome views and very little traffic. I can highly recommend it for wearing out any chicken strips you might have left!

Also H96 (east to west) towards the coast just south in California, is a great twisty route that follows the river valley. It would be a good route down to Tiny's bar...

Have fun and be safe!
