Hey Josh,

You know there's always got to be one of those "look on the bright side " types out there who think that they can offer some great "wisdom through experience" crap that will make you instantly feel better about your situation. I'm not one of those. I will admit to feeling tremendously relieved at finding out that you are in a trauma center in the States as opposed to God-knows-where in Mexico or Peru.
On second thought maybe that is on the bright-ish side of things. Could be one of those nurses or therapist types is young, single , beautifull and into hard-core adventurers such as yourself!
I'm not the praying type. I'm more the type who would come in on a regular basis to visit you in whatever shape you are, share the beer that I smuggled in and refuse to allow you to succumb to the thought that your ADVENTURE had ended!

Alan

P.S. I'm the one falling down. I have been told that I can't hold my alcohol!

Selling the bike

Hey

I am probably going to try selling my bike sometime while I am out here in CA. I know it could be difficult, but it seems that the info I've gotten so far says I could probably do it.

1996 Honda XR650L

I imagine if you read this thread (Before the crash you rubberneckers jk) then you probably know a bit about how it was maintained. And ridden.

Its actually in pretty good shape right now, me and river rat just put new tires, tubes, chains, sprockets, chain slider, brake fluid (although the front brake is kinda wierd feeling, so you might wanna check it out before you ride it anywhere).

Its got around 27500 miles on it I think. She's been through a lot, but she pulls really strong.

I will try and have river rat take some pics and maybe post em up for me.

Basically I want to sell it so that I dont have to ship it back across the country and then have a bike that I cannot ride. Plus I am sure I will be needing money very soon for medical bills and whatnot.

I guess I will try posting this in the marketplace too.

Hi Josh!!!!
great to see you that you are back online and keeping us updated in your progress I'll be waiting for you to come to Nicaragua as we talked about. I'm sure that with some time you'll make your way down south.
All of us have the risk of having the same type of accident that you did and might have to go through the same hardships. let us know how you progress. as you an inspiration to all us

best recovery,
S.

Josh,

Bummer about the train wreck!

I'm trying to put together a deal where I fly to LAX, "obtain" a vehicle (pickup, van etc.), then return to NC with my newly purchased bike. IF I can, I would try my best to bring your bike back to NC with me if you decide not to sell it.

Strangly enough, one of your early photos was taken on the BRP overlooking the Haw Creek Valley. I live just on the other side of Asheville from where that photo was taken.

Anyway, if I can find a vehicle that can carry/tow your bike and mine, I'd be happy to bring it back should you decide.

I don't have any cash, BUT I have a Gateway Notebook less than 1 year old I can donate, it needs a new screen, but I can send to whomever has one for it.
It is a Gateway MT3707. I also have a case for it....
Screens can be had on eby for 150 bux.

Who do I need to send it to?

Also, I can see if my Buddy, who goes out to Yuma and places close by (San Diego, to Barstow), if he can load up Josh's bike and get it to Charlotte, if I have to ride it there myself and walk back to Lumberton.

EDITED:
I just saw that you were selling the bike.... so maybe the transport won't be needed.

Edited # 2

please see this post as some othe stuff is going on
I want to help Josh as much as I can, and this is the only way I know how at this point

Here's to a fast recovery, Josh

I just chanced upon your ad tonight and followed your link to your trip. It made me feel so great to know someone in my tax bracket was taking a trip I would love to one day.

Then I got to the Califoria stretch. Gods, I was so sorry to hear of your accident Josh. I wish you the best in a speedy recovery and trip home. I hope that if you ever need anything you'll keep in contact here so all the wonderful ADV'ers can keep things going for you.

I know you may not feel it now, but you are an inspiration Josh. To all of us.

Love and prayers,
B

Josh ... I am sure there are many silent ones like me who have been praying for you. So glad to hear of the good progress. This past week while in another country here in West Africa I could not read of your progress, but your name came to me several times. Praying often for 'courage' as you work your way back to health. Praying also for your healing ... would love to hear that you are back in the saddle once again. Hang tough ... lots of folks on your side wanting to see you encouraged and well again!
