As I mentioned in a previous thread, Pat and I will be in BigBend in a few days and perhaps for as long as 2 weeks. Would like to meet and ride with anyone who's there.

We're in a small 5th wheel RV trailer behind a F350 p/u with 2 Super Sherpas hanging off. Don't know where we'll be camping, but likely in the NP campgrounds. You're welcome to use our rig as a base camp.

If you're interested get back to us here or:

Time to resurrect this thread.

We never made it last year. 2 of the 4 had to drop out the week of departure, for good vaild reasons, but the 2 of us that still wanted to go could not afford the gas anymore.

But this year is different. I have a Tiger now, and I plan on slabbing it to TX this coming January. Might have company with me, might not. Either way I am going.

Since I might be solo I am not really looking to camp this go-round. Looking for cheap yet somewhat hospitable motels. How is the Chisos Mining Company Motel? They look to have nice rates and be close to activities and food.

Noticed lots of road issues with the flooding on the official park website. I reckon most of that will be fixed by the time I get out there.

Thanks to all who have contributed all this great info!

All I know is that marfa is the last place to look for a cheap hotel, well over $100/night. There's a couple places in Ft Davis that were about $50 last time through, couple nice places to eat, and of course the Mcdonald observatory. If price is a concern, Van Horn or Ft Stockton hotels are the cheapest around @ $25. The other BB thread has weather info, FM170 is still washed out but may be rideable. presidio may have some cheap hotels

Winter is unpredictable in BB, if its sunny temps can get up to 90, but heaven help you if you're in BFE when a front comes through, howling gale forced winds, driving rain, and plummetting temps, make sure you bring cold weather gear.

I have stayed at Terlingua ranch resort, do not remember the price but did not feel gouged. I have also found reasonable accommodations in Alpine. I wonder why Marfa would be expensive.

Thanks guys, I have been watching the other BB thread for the road closures, etc, but I think by Jan all should be close to normal. I kinda hope they don't regrade the roads before I get there though!

The best deal I have come across is the Chisos Mining Co Motel... they have some decent looking cabins for well under a hundred.

I stayed in one of their rooms last Feb and it was basic, but functional. All I needed was a bed, a roof and hot water and it met those requirements just fine. Good price and had TV too. I'd stay there again.

Hill country = best twisty bits between the gulf and BB. Definitely worth routing through if you're headed that way from the east.

MF let's go. There is nothing but 6 turns from here to there and 4 of those are getting out of atlanta. I have the go ahead from the wife, hopefully the economy won't pick up until after we get back so I can get off work. We can go see the Aliens in Roswell, NM or go see the bat shit in the Carlsbad Caverns.

I told flux that the earliest I can leave is friday after work, which may be 5-6 in the evening or 10:30 am. If you guys need to leave out before then, by all means I'll catch up, it's not like I'll miss a turn . I'm planning on 9 days total.
