Today I saw at Walmart plastic waterproof(?) pistol cases with hinged top doors that looked like they might fit nicely as side cases. Around $10 each.

I'm going to buy a set and see what I can rig.

You talking about something like this:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...051&hasJS=true

Somebody over on the 'minimalist touring thread' used these as side cases and posted pix, if you want to see what they look like on a small bike (pretty good, I think). Go over there and scan the last 10 pages or so and you'll find the pix.

How do you like the tire? Im thinking it will be my choice for a new back tire. It should have better on road manners, and only give up a bit off road.

I love it so far. Not even 100 miles on it yet, and none of those offroad, but the street grip is great. If you want a tire that 'only gives up a little' offroad, this tire might not be it, from what I've read. It's supposedly a 90% street, 10% offroad tread.

I'm doing some tuneup work on a friend's Sherpa next week. Would someone have the valve clearances handy?

Intake: 0.10-0.19 mm
Exhaust: 0.14-0.23mm

Adjustment is with shims, so if they're out of spec, you've got some work on your hands.

Don't forget some high-temperature RTV to seal up the half-moon ends of the valve cover gasket.

Wow, so the Sherpa is coming back to the US in '09. I wonder when it will actually hit the dealers.

Sourdough: Nice job on the mods. Is that a homemade rear rack? Nicely done. I like the tube storage where the OEM toolkit used to mount. I was thinking of something similar. What materials did you use and how do you use that storage space?

I can't believe they've gone back to the army green, and the low front guard
Were people complaining that the 06's and 07's were too practical and stylish?

Feedback on the Kawi Super Sherpa

Im really psyched about Kawasaki bringing back the super sherpa for '09. Seems like the perfect small bore adventure bike...air-cooled simplicity but the bonus of having a dohc 4-valve head (as opposed to the sohc 2-valve XT and honda CRF), 6 speed, reasonable seat height, etc.

???'s for owners:

1. What kind of MPG are getting?

2. Has anyone tried 50-60mph light touring on a super sherpa?

3. Is there much in the way of aftermarket accessories for this bike?

Thanks for the info!

Tandoori donuts

Good eye!

Actually, it was taken on Hwy 10 on the north side of Orangeville, just south of Hockley Valley Rd.

My buddy (on his Honda TL-125) and I rode from south Etobicoke to Collingwood and back last Friday, following some GPS tracks that we found on the Ontario Dual Sport Club website. Once the fog burned off, it was an absolutely stunning day!

To check out our route, go to the ODSC forums and look up the "CANADA GPS TRACKS LIBRARY" thread under GPS stuff. There are tons of great tracks. They are mainly Ontario centric, but you may find some in your neck of the woods.
