Victorian Alps Ride in Australia

My brother and I rode 3,300 kilometers (including a return trip to Newcastle NSW) through the Victorian Alps and South Eastern States of Victoria in May 2009.

We started in NSW as part of a Cancer Council ride. See link below.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...454008&page=13

This is a link to the other ride report for the Cancer Council ride.

This is a photo of our first night the 8th May 2009 in Albury NSW on the Victorian Border. My bike was cold outside the motel room and I was lonely

Photo of park at Lake Buffako, Buffalo River and Mount Buffalo behind the bikes.

These are some shots of our bikes playing in the snow in Mount Buffalo Victoria , south of Albury. We had trouble riding through the snow as our tyres were not suitable ....but it made a good shot.

Day Three

We stayed at a little place called Harrietville the second night which is South East of Mount buffalo. The next day we headed up to Mount Beauty, falls Creek

[IMG][/IMG]

and had a drink at the Blue Duck Inn.

[IMG][/IMG]

This photo is of a brick pump house???? or shit house???? for little people behind the Blue Duck Inn.

[IMG][/IMG]

We mostly stuck to tar up to this point but the roads are twisty . From here we rode to Omeo then Dargo. From Omeo to Dargo it was all dirt starting with Swifts Creek Omeo Road. This is a photo from the road.

[IMG][/IMG]

My brother has all the photos of this area so I will get him to add one here of Dargo pub where we staying that night. We met a great bloke that ran the general store/ KTM dealership.

He is a keen dirt bike rider and has a lot of stories. One was about a guy that ran out of fuel in the dargo forest on his KTM 300 and had to stay the night on top of one of the nearby mountains fighting off wild dogs with a stick alll night .

The other stories I cant tell here

Day Four

These are some photos from day four on our way from dargo to Walhalla.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

This is a shot of an unusual buiding in Walhalla.

[IMG][/IMG]

My brother has wanted to visit Walhalla for years so we finally got there. I thought that he would want to stay around a bit, ask some questions and explore the town......but no we stayed there 7 minutes and we were off again!!!!!!!!

From Walhalla we went to Sale and stayed the night.

Day 5

On day five we went to Bairnsdale and had some new tyres fitted. We then headed over some interesting back roads to Omeo via Orbost.

This is an old farm house that we liked the look of.
[IMG][/IMG]

This photo was taken near Timbarra River outside of Omeo.

[IMG][/IMG]

The dust you see in this next photo is my brother's dust he created just to annoy me as I was taking this shot (the bastard).

[IMG][/IMG]

This is where we stayed that night. It was a great pub with great pub meals

Hi Guys, great that you had a pleasant ride and some fun.
A couple of us pulled into that pub one night on our trip and even though the bistro had closed they made some pizza .

See you next year again on the Cancer ride, great job boys

Our "Alps" in Australia are really big hills

I was in Canada last year and saw some real Alps around Banff and British Columbia. I went for a few walks in and around Banff and I was exhausted climbing your big hills.

Thanks Detlef. We had a great week and a half on the Cancer Council ride and on our ride through Victoria. That is the first time I have been in that area of Australia.
