The one thing he said that keeps coming back to me was, "When you have spend a long evening drinking, and manage to get lost in a forest on Iceland, in the morning, when you wake up, all you have to do is stand up, and you can see your way out, as the trees are only four feet tall".

Great report.

I'd do a tour of Iceland before Africa or South America.

Thx!

The sunset picture and some of the others may end up on the walls when I redo my apartment!
Iceland is fantastic, if one appriciate the rough and harsh environment.
So not for everyone maybe, at least not with a motorcycle. I'm used to cold days and rain, since I live in Norway. And my mood doesn't change as much as people who feel they are freezing to death..

Since my plans for cruising along the 1000 lakes in Finland had to be cancelled due to a wedding, I now look to the west (California) for a warm start of the summer. It's been almost 7 years since I moved back to Norway from CA.
I may go on ride to the Lofoten in Norway with the Chief bluesmoke in July, and if I have enough time I will ride all the way up to the North Cape.

I did a similar ride with the Chief Bluesmoke in 2003, but turned around in Harstad.. a trip report here: http://home.online.no/~344chief/skogsl1.html
And some pictures here: http://home.online.no/~344chief/imag.../index001.html

In the Lofoten area in 2003

Here's a onboard video from one of the gravel roads in Iceland.
The old Indian handles pretty good on gravel road.. it's not top heavy like many modern bikes.

Fantastic video! I just love the sound of the engine, the surroundings and the looks of the bike. Also a really great report. It's nice to see a nice old-school bike out there. As been said, you don't need a GS1200 or a KTM Adventure to do extraordinary adventures.
And I can't help but to admire your mechanic skills. You've put it together and then on the road have to do all these McGyver-ish repairs, get the bike working and continue your ride.

articIndian,

Great report and videos. It's a welcome change to see a vintage bike on an ADVrider style adventure.

Stunning photos, absolutely stunning. Iceland is so photogenic, and surely one of the ultimate dream ADV rides.

I looked up your BL'sBL's band:

Good grungy metal(?) but I think I prefer the sound of Chief Bluesmoke in your video clip...

Whereas for me, what made it special was that I felt the Chief didn't look at all at home in that landscape!

Naaah.

PS Found your RR in TaSK's European Ride Report Index
Otherwise, I might never have seen it.
