Cannot provide link as my email is down but if you google Aus GS safari you should get something. If not then pm me and I will send the link tomorrow when the IT guys get it together.

Thanks for the idea. Will see what happens. However most likely I will have to be back on booked date due to work committments. But will keep it in mind.

Ye... Queenstown is a favorite place for many... I prefer Wanaka just up the road. I have climbed most of the peaks in NZ including Tasman, Cook and Aspiring and spent some down time in both Q'town and Wanaka. Earlier this year I rode around NZ for 4 weeks including a week with my 11yo daughter. Still didn't get to see everything of course so will be heading back real soon. Met some great Kiwi riders and forged lasting friendships.

sounds like we have interests in common Steve. I've done a fair bit of NZ peak bashing too. Mountains and motorbikes.....Something about risk taking in the psych profile?
We should get out for a ride one day

Sounds like a loose plan The last peak i attempted was Aconcagua in Argentina in 2006. Second attempt and both times the weather Gods kept us at bay. When I walked off the mountain onto the road head 35 miles from Base Camp.. Three GS1150ADV's rode past. I was gone from that moment.. Went home and sold my old R1150R and ordered the 12GSA Love the PIG but I also love my DRZ400E.

Hmmmm.. maybe a bit off topic but some of you may appreciated this study that was just completed. I found it whilst researching for a paper I had to write after my recent Viet Nam study tour. The topic was road safety in Viet Nam but some of the info on this study (and others i found) is very interesting especially in regard to your comments aspad. Apparently as a 'group' bike riders are higher risk takers than most of society... but hey that's nothing any of us would think is new eh?

Anyway here is the link but be warned its about 1.5meg so even opening it off he net may take a while on a slow connection. The study is called "Psychological and social factors influencing motorcycle rider intentions and behaviour" and it a long report.

bout a 1/4 of the way through but it seems it's official - we are hooligans who cannot read and take drugs...

some interesting stats in it tho - i liked this table on page 31 - it doesn't copy and paste well for me

Just read the summary quickly. An interesting study and I think it has us fairly well nailed as sensation seeking, individualist, high locus of control types who like risk taking (within our own limits), but choose who we ride with, and like to put ourselves in situations where our skills need to developed and used.
For me the above applies to mountain environments too (although I am seriously out of practice in that regard having spent the last 3 years with my arse planted on the seat of my bike).
The two sports have a similar appeal though - both provide opportunities to completely lose yourself in what you are doing because of the demands of the environment and the need to match your skills to those demands (Flow) and provide moments/memories/sensations of soaring transcendence over the humdrum of everyday life.

I thought the very same thing when i read it as I also used to spend some time in the hills/ mountains on a mountain bike doing downhills or cross country. In addition the other sports i like all take focus and flow as you mention whether it be snow boarding, rollerblading or water skiing.

Keep a wary eye on the weather forcasts while you visit GSG, It changes quickly, and can become life threatening, but most of all, enjoy your stay.
Coromandel on a fine weekend is hard to beat. (couple of hours from Akld, bikes can be hired from Coro/Whitianga.

Thanks Rhino. I have found quite a lot of rental companies but unfortunately none in Wellington hence my question. It would fit in much better with other travel plans if we could pick one up in Wellington rather than anywhere else.
