Thanks, Bob.

I made my way up through the Alvord Desert. Time was ticking and I was on the throttle. It's not that far from home and I'll come back to do the Steens Loop.

Somehow I found my way to Boise. No offense to anyone, but I'm not a fan. Humid, covered myself in enough bugs to make a meal. Nice sunset though!!

I snagged a mural on my way through.

I had saved a trucker a ticket south of Boise. There was a cop at the bottom of a long grade, I gave the first truck a head tap and he gave me a big wave. I had rockstar status for a coupla hundred miles. Flashin' their lights to let me in, saving slow passes until I had gone by, horn toot and big flash of the lights to tell me of a fresh deer carcas ahead, light flashing to let me know about a big crash ahead..it pays to be nice to truckers!!

I stopped for a nap. Interesting thing happened to me today..I fell asleep on a bike. Broad daylight and I woke up heading for the ditch. Strangely I was feeling better when it got dark?

I made my way into Walla Walla and found a camping spot.

23 hour day, 36 hours since I had slept..night, night.

I slept until 9 at Walmart.

Taped up a tweaked blinker.

Replaced a worn out Metzler Karoo T.

Spooned on a new Dunlop 606.

That was a big day on a bike without any wind protection.

I found something to eat and wandered out of town around 11am on the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route.

OK, maybe I'm weird, but pitching your tent at a Wal*Mart is pretty imaginative, and with a couple of balls too....

Ride safe...

The first day out on the trail was a rough one. Head on crash with a truck, rancher tried to kill me, massive vision blurring headache at the end of the day..free beers and new friends made up for the bad.

I met a fox the other day
When I asked how much she cost, I had to pay
All of a sudden I'd brought her home

She's one hundred kilos dressed in silverchrome

She's my world, she's so rad
She's the best ride I ever had
She's my life, she's so bad
She's the best ride I ever had

When I imagine me and her
You know that I get a stand-up fur
I give her oil, I give her gas
And get her seat beneath my ass
And then the turtledoves drive away

She's my world, she's so rad
She's the best ride I ever had
She's my life, she's so bad
She's the best ride I ever had

She's secondhand(now), so what? She's true, she's by my side
For all I care, she's hot, she's a real good ride
When we go out, people stop and stare with jealous minds
It's OK for me, as long as they let her be...
To prevent something like a theft I got her locked around a tree

She's my world, she's so rad
She's the best ride I ever had

I took my time

I hurried up

I feel my vision slipping in and out of focus,
But I'm pushing on for that horizon,

I'm pushing on,
Now I've got the blowing wind against my face

Cry Thank you, Scott.

Up on the something or the other Skyline Road.

I climbed down off this cliff and an old timer pulled up and asked me if I had found the memorial.

I hadn't seen the memorial, so he and his Grandson showed it to me. The Grandson had just returned from Iraq and his brother Scott did not. Grandpa/Grandma/Grandson were out looking for a place for Scott to rest.

A little death makes life more meaningful.

The view from the memorial. The Grande Ronde River is down there.

Eek Head on with a truck.

I forget where exactly my little bump into a truck took place, but my notes say it happened on this day. I was running about 45-50 mph, nasty washboard so I was in the center of the road to stay out of the bumps. Most of the traffic I had seen that day was running about 20 mph, easy for me to get over and stop to let them by. Lot's of traffic this holiday weekend, some sort of bowhunting season had opened up I think. It was a sharp left hander, I hang to the right of the bike looking for traffic. Uh oh!!! Truck, really moving fast..I drop a couple gears..have time to look at my options..straight into the front and fly over it or scrub as much speed as possible and end up under the truck..I decided to ride it until I was smashed flat. I broke to the right, the washboard stepped the rear end out, full left lock broadside to the front of the truck, he had his brake pedal to the floor-no room for him to move to his right, I goosed the throttle, somehow the bike started to straighten out, still hard on the front brake, I'm going to make it!!!!! We're both under 20 mph now, I hit the left front corner of the truck with my Dirtbagz, it lifted the back of the bike to the right and I plopped down straight and level on both wheels..stopped..even with his rear bumper. He hangs his head backwards out the window and asks if I'm alright, I turn around and say "Yes, is your truck okay?" he says "Yes" and we part ways. I'm pretty sure I broke his headlight/blinker, but if he doesn't want to look I'm on my way.

I really needed a break. I found this little swimming hole and took a dip.

I made friends with the couple throwing sticks for their dogs. She said I looked like I really needed a beer, I agreed...she looked at me again and said, "No...I think you need two beers!!." Ahh, the kindness of strangers.

Beer and wine does me fine but
it doesn't always do
When I get back up and dust off
I always come back to you.
I'm my own man with my own plan
I can't do the things you want me to
I'm kinda lazy and I kinda stink
But I'll clean myself up for you

Lifeline

If you hear a distant sound.

and some footsteps by your side.

If you feel like coming round.
I will take you for a ride.

If you wish it, wish it now.
If you wish it, wish it loud.

If you want it, say it now.

If you want it, say it loud.
