Good point Phil. I'd be in if there was an assurance that they'd be available within a reasonable timeframe. Otherwise the mind starts to stray towards other options...

Exactly, I have other sets of forks that I could fit, but if you need custom clamps, steering stems, stiffer springs, bigger brakes etc the costs get BIG quickly, so the inserts offer a huge improvement while retaining the stock appearance and geometry. IMO, the stock forks are plenty rigid enough if fitted with a fork brace, its only the damping that needs improvement.

OTOH, there must be other cartridges out there which can be adapted. Since these have pretty beefy walls, a cartridge from some 38mm fork (if there were any 38mm cartridge forks) would probably work.

Anybody know about these? Alternative inserts

Came across these in an old posting on the HPN forum
http://www.hh-racetech.com/portal/On...E/Default.aspx
Has any one knowledge of these or the shop. There's not much info, other than they are available for the R80 and R100 GS. So I suppose that an email may be necessary.
Regards,
Erland

I think that's definitely worth a follow-up. Did you email them?

HPN Inserts - Group Buy?

Add 1 kit for me as well!!! I emailed HPN a few weeks ago before I saw this post, now I know why there was no reply.
Will follow this thread, am serious about buying the Marzocci Magnum internals for the bike, anything should be better than stock! I am not interested in putting rediculous money into this bike, this seems to be the perfect solution. Now if only HPN will come to the rescue at a decent price.
While I've had my GS for many years now, I am a new member here, please excuse no photo or catchy phrase yet...:).

I'd seriously consider the inserts, just need to see the final cost of a group buy.

bump.

Went for the first real offroad ride on my new to me R80GS. I have to do something about the front suspension.

Has anyone tried alternatives to these HPN & are happy with them?

HPN will not have this part any longer

I had my good friend in Germany call and discuss this issue at length with HPN. He (HPN) clarified that there were no parts in stock, you cannot get them from BMW, and they did not have a vendor looking into making more of them. So, he lied.
I looked into contacting Marzocchi myself, but gave up on that as they would probably want to get a contract for a run of like 500 sets or so before they would talk to you. IF anyone wants to go that route, and convinces MArzocchi to fire up the old M1 cartridge kit production line, let me know, I'll take a set. Maybe there is a way from Marzocchi USA for the contact, I'm sure they have a rep in Italy with access to the needed information and such.
I also had a German BMW dealer put out a message to any BMW dealer using their internal parts system to see if they had the "sport suspension kit" in stock sitting on their shelf, as I would buy it right there. There were none. They also checked stock in Germany and western Europe with the same result.
BMW has discontinued this part and has no plans to restock it ever.
So, in short, from the best I can find, there is nothing available at any price for this fork.
Again, I think it unfortunate that HPN would say that they are looking into it, to check back in a few weeks, then simply fall off the face of the earth. Makes me very hesitant to ever use them. Bad business practice if you ask me, misleading at the least. Shame on you HPN, is this your idea of customer service?
Ok, rant over, thanks for reading, good luck on the search...
