It's the same powertrain as the Aprilia Mana. A couple of guys on the road bike forum have had rides on that model. Supposed to be a sweet ride.
When i picked up my Vespa last week there was one in the shop. I like the concept, just can't see why it couldn't be belt drive.

Took the Vespa down for it's first service today. Had arranged for a "loaner".
Was expecting some scabrous turd to be wheeled in my direction.
Instead i got this...

Well, here is the shit.
It's heavy, long and quick. The finish is a bit iffy in places. The center stand has weld spatter that would make a T34 builder blush. The riding position is near perfect. Ride it feet mid, like a "normal" bike or feet forward, like Mr Fonda. The boot hold one full size helmet. The electric screen is remarkable in that it increases noise, whilst doing little else. It will hold 3 figure speeds with ease.
Would i buy one?
No.
Simply put, it's too much and not enough.
It's too heavy, too pricey and will probably cost the same as a big bike to run.
The ride home through the rush hour traffic on my Vespa highlighted that for town work, very few things will beat a light, short punchy scoot for fun and quick progress.
The Gilera is a great concept, and for those who want an auto shift low and long alternative commuter - tourer, it is close to spot on.
But the use of chain FD, for me, puts it into the motorcycle category, and i would rather keep the Vespa and buy a big moto to rip around on.
Just my opinion.

The real question is: why did they put a chain as the final drive on a scooter?

Because a standard belt-driven variator final drive can't survive the abuse of that V2 for more than ~6000 miles before self-destructing. This was deemed unacceptable by the Piaggio management.
