That's awesome Fx!

When I was a certain age there was nothing better than riding with dad!

Thanks for the prayers. It's funny how time off frequently coincides with unfavorable conditions (rain, no $, illness) , but in this case Nathan is a trooper and doesn't care about the liquid sunshine. He has the waterproof camera ,rain gear, and high hopes.

Ride report pics should be interesting .

Super Nate's birthday guide to Minister Creek,PA

Weel, it's been pretty quiet in here since the weekend, so here is some potential entertainment.

A few guys have asked about Minister Creek. It is a small recreation area in PA.

I've been going there for backpacking, car camping, and mountain biking for over 20 years.

Here is a glimpse of it via my son's birthday wish (moto camping in PA).

I usually run like this for solo camping. Obviously not passenger friendly.

So I fabbed up a little something. (Reclaimed Kelty baby carrier)

Loaded up with the bare essentials and a newly penny-teched rack.

Nate highly recommends the place for the last civilized moment before turning on to RT.666

The Superman ice cream is superb.

DO NOT get the SUPER EXTRA LARGE....it won't fit in a pannier.

Standard Minister Creek rustic site. (this happens to be #5, $10 - bring cash for the self pay- a night no matter how many people get crammed in there)

You are going to need firewood. Years of popularity have whittled the supply to nil. There are several places around to get a night's worth for 5 bucks.

doesn't look like much but it's just for ambiance.

We were running at o'deer thirty so I started noticing the scenery. Check out this little shack. I'm zoomed in quite a bit.

There is a little soaking hole which feels pretty good after a day in the twisties of PA.

This is the main valley about 500 feet the from camp site.

One more for effect/scale.

Each campsite has a typical fire ring/cooking thingy.

BTW - I love this tent. Mountain Hard Wear, Drifter 3.

Peaceful meadow about 1.5 mile walk upstream from camp.

There is a 6 mile loop in the valley.

No shortage of info to guide you on your merry way.

Plenty of big rocks and stuff

My favorite part.

Good thing this kid has a beautiful mother.

the view from the top....missed the eagle and the pack?? of vultures that were flying around.

Mission Accomplished....birthday wish granted.

Aside from my neurotic picture posting, this is more or less a "hey guys, this is a really cool place and we should do a group ride/camp".

Here are the Google map of the camp's location.

There is a great ride route from Burton and I would be more than happy to organize and "lead" the expedition.

Surf around on google earth in the surrounding are. There are tons of fire roads and interesting things to see. Including the infamous Cougar Bob's in Kelletville. About 10 minutes from camp. flush toilets...NO WIFI .

Here's the route I usually take.

Well, that's my tale and the BIG idea.

Let me know whatchya think.

What a great birthday gift. Enjoy these times.
Last Friday, I rode with my 25 year old son for the first time.
He recently purchased his first bike. They grow up fast.

My 12.5yo is scoping a DRZe 400 for his first "street" bike.

MInister Creek is a nice area, spent more of my childhood camping in that area than anywhere else combined. If you run north from there to Cherry Grove then east to a forest road number that slips my mind, there is a ledge of rocks about 150 yards long that we used to enjoy crawling around on and under.

Just up the road from that is Chapman Dam State Park and the Rocky Gap ATV & Motorcycle trails. There is a good chance I will be up there the 27th

666 also made in into Motorcyclist Magazine quite a few years back

I do love the area. I try to get over there every other month for at least a day.

Way to go FatherX! Now THAT is what being a dad is about, spending quality time with the kids. I bet he never forgets that trip. And might I add it looks like a fantastic ride. Well done.

If you go past the Whiskey Island sign all the way to the end of that access road, you will be in Wendy Park. Park then walk up to the old Coast Guard station and sit on the break-wall and watch the boats go past. My daughter(10) thinks it's a pretty neat place to go in the evening.

Captain Vague to the green courtesy phone.

This particular caffeine shrine is in the town with the name I dread. We like our offspring one at a time, not in braces.

Interior shot, yes you have to go in, for authenticity

Anyone need a bicycle trailer?

I've got a Papoose Caboose with the running attachment that my last kid outgrew at the start of this year. Look at the link to see the details. It holds 2 kids for a combined weight up to 100# (I believe), with storage for the picnic stuff behind them.

http://www.baby-jogging-strollers.co..._trailers.html

I thought I'd try here before craigslist or ebay. It's in perfect shape, but it might be a bit dusty. It probably only has 300 miles on it. I told my friend with twins she could have it for $200, so that's the price.

EDIT: I just looked at it, and it has an old night riding rig still on it. I shined it down from the top to see into the trailer when I rode at night. It goes too if you want it.
