I guess I never noticed the jets were from another brand of bike but upon inspection the jets were smaller bore.

A narrower needle will flow more fuel but, the main jet still restricts the maximum flow at full throttle no matter how far the jet needle comes out. However the needle jet that the jet needle slides through can wear out and cause issues down the road. Or are we talking about something else?

His new needle is much richer (thinner). What surprised me was they kept the stock pilot and turned the fuel screw out 3.5 turns?

Looks like we'll have time to play with the jetting, I broke one of the tabs off that holds the needle retainer clip. I have it fixed good enough to test the jetting while the new one is being shipped. I don't get it close, I have to take it back apart anyhow when the new one comes in.

I never cared for the Dynojet kit on my old DRZ personally. For jet kits, I think JD does a much better job, and usually gives you 2 needles and uses Mikuni/Keihin jets.

Oh, and don't feel bad about that slide. Al (remember him Michael?) broke the same piece when he rejetted his DRZ a few years ago. The replacement slide cost a small fortune.

I used the JD jet kit as well with good results. I actually have the spare jets and needles if that helps. However, since I jetted for similar mods as you Thomas it probably won't help too much.

He's a step son and when he came to stay with us he was already carrying 3 strikes in Juvenile court. He thought daddy was the greatest, for a kid, he was because he was never home and let him do what he wanted all hours of the night. We got a phone call once that dad was in Chicago while Junior was driving a car around town in his car at 14. When the police greeted him in the drive way upon his return, he greeted them with a shrug and "WHAT? I was just picking up dad's dry cleaning"

I thought BMX and dirt bikes would turn him around but it didn't. A needle phobic kid who once woosy from a puncture wound to his hand, nearly puked all over my couch when I held out an industrial stapler to close up a wound (it was a joke) is now covered in tats. When he was in the ER getting stitches for it he went from a 17yo to a 3 yo whimpering like a school girl when they got the needle out!

What sucks is how well we got along

He turned a nice brand new set of Talon Wheels into squares at Marienville

That's Sad to hear. I can safely say that if it hadn't been for mine, who knows where I'd be. He light heartedly mentioned maybe getting another bike. He had a CB350 he used to commute on but sold it when we moved closer to his plant. He also rode my XL125 for a while.
