Pissed Sad news..

Hello Gents.
Monday night about midnight, I was told there was smoke coming from the garage. I headed there, reached in and tried to open the outer garage door. The wall was so hot I burned my hand on the wall trying to hit the open button.
I ran outside, and hit a remote in a car. As the door lifted open, I saw 2 foot + tall (close to a meter for my non American speaking friends) leaping from my 1980 KZ750 from the handlebars to the seat.
*Oh Shit*
I shouted to call the fire department.
We exited the house virtually immediately after.
All 5 of us in the house (Myself, my wife, our youngest daughter, our exchange student, and a family friend staying with us) along with our 3 dogs headed out to the backyard.
We called 911 a second time. After what we think is about 10 minutes, the fire department arrived.
By then we had flames gushing out of the garage, heading 20-30 (7 to 10 meters) up in the air.
Because of the steep pitch of my roof, the fire followed the inside of my roofline up into the 3rd floor of the house.
It took about 3 hours to douse the blaze.
Our community has been wonderful. We stayed with neighbors for the next two nights, and are transitioning to a hotel as of last night. We have found a house to rent as the rebuild will take 6 to 9 months.
Good news? I get a brand new house. It'll look a LOT like the old house, but be basically all new.
We have since accounted for the 3 cats. No fatalities (other than fish) and basically no injuries to us or the firemen.
Some more pictures..

Loads of sunlight due to the 20 foot hole in the roof..

Please raise a glass of bier in mourning. I think you might recognize a sad, sad victim in this photo.

In the end it's all just stuff, even the house. Your family and pets are what made it a home, and you are all alive and safe. You will ride again, and make new memories with your family.

Pretty sad about the Porsche .

A little help with the pics:

Glad you are all ok and it ended as well as could be hoped.
As he said.. losing stuff is a cheap bargain to the alternative.

Unfortunate.

In the hopefully unlikely event that this sort of thing happens again, as long as the room / garage is unoccupied, don't open the door. Oxygen is one part of the equation that fire needs, and by leaving all doors and windows shut the fire is consuming only the available oxygen in that room, and you can stifle the blaze a bit, hopefully giving the FD time to respond and attack the fire on a smaller scale.

Dead

This place has been dead lately. Nothing going on? No tags to get? Nothing? (except house fires, sorry about that...) Leaving town in the morning for a 400 mile day w/ some camping at the end. If anyone has some time to kill... Later!

I'd ride/tag more but damned work keeps getting in the way of riding time. That and everything keeps breaking sitting still. If you want you could go find the guard rail tag that's currently up.

Sorry to hear of your fire CuberBob. Like meef said, keep the room shut. Stuff wet towels under the doors if you can, just be safe first. Glad to hear all the wife, kids, and pets made it out.

Well, had the chance to ride a bit this week. Sandusky bike week is a joke. On a brighter note, we are working at St. Gabriel's Church in Concord and yoga pants are all the rage this year.

New tag.

When in "Norka" tag a Norka futon... Well this abandoned mall has really gone down hill, and all we could find is this old couch.

If i'm looking at the correct abandoned mall on Google maps it looks like there are some dirt trails on the west side.

Yeah, they've found a couple bodies back there. I haven't had the courage to go back there yet.
