Delay means dissapointment

So anyway me and Cumminsman76, decided we needed to go riding today. The original plan was to ride essentially a figure 8 around Eureka Missouri, exploit its good roads and then head up to route 66 state park. Thats not how it went.

We met at the local white castle, and much to my later dismay I decided I would just eat afterward. So over the train tracks we went, past the old ural dealership and through some of the best roads around here.

We paused for abit, to get some photos down on the flood plain.

and then again abit later, I wanted to make sure my pacing was alright. This is the first time we'd ridden together and with me on a DR and he on a DRZ neither of us had mirrors worth a flying fuck.

Now I would have liked to take some pics of the road, as its truly a fine ride with expansive flood plains to your left and finely sculpted missouri limestone to the right, however I felt it best to worry about one thing at a time.

With the little loop done we headed up north, past six flags to try and puzzle out the scenic loop I'd seen on google maps but never in real life. The ride there was fine, however it was -quite- hilly. One steep grade found me all alone, so I stopped and waited for my companion. After a touch he arrived, only to confess he didnt much enjoy descending hills. Ok, I can groove on that. So we set off again, up the other end of a small valley only to find perhaps the steepest paved grade I have ever seen with my own eyes.
"Holy shit dude, look at that!"
"Yeah, I know" he sounded terribly amused.

So we descended, comfortably and decided it best we investigate a scenic overlook we'd bipassed due to steep descent.

Scenic overlook my ass, we overlooked nothing worth bother but we soon scouted out the nearby little camp house all the same.

I'd seen this almost immediately when we sat down, but for the life of me I couldnt figure out "why a donkey" until...

Thats some mother fucking donkey, or rather it was anyway.

By now it was time to head to route 66, however my memory failed me and we were instead returned to the flood basin.

Great, outstanding. We called our respective significant others for directions, as the two idiots (we) had both left our GPSes elsewhere. After some directions, we were off again.

109-W and then, I really dont know where the fuck we were. We spent like two hours on cool country roads, which was fine except that we werent going where we wanted to and we were running into highway. So we back tracked a fair bit, and my riding companion, Cumminsman elected to head back home.

I headed over to route 66 alone, but I didnt find the success I was after. I'd seen hundreds of pictures of the place, back in the day and was gonna take some before and after photos but that didnt go over real well.

Years ago, this had been the city of times beach. First it was a resort town for rich city-folk, and then it slowly slid into a poor highway town like many missouri towns. The roads off the main Route 66 drag were gravel, and the city elected to spray the gravel roads with essentially chemical waste. Long story short, the stuff was incredibly toxic and the whole city became a superfund site. THe entire city was bulldozed over, incinerated and burried. Now just some walking trails remain. I wonder if people walking here, with babies in strollers realize what this place really is.

Anyway, next trip I'll take more photos. Promise.

It was a great day for a ride. I did get alot more comfortable going down steep hills. And leaving the GPS's (I didnt have the mount piece to put it on the bikeso I left it in the truck) sure makes for more adventure.
