Going to get a lightly used DL1000!!!!!!

Hitching to New Orleans to get a craigslist Vstrom. Super excited, got all my cold gear. Will catalog the journey. 820 miles or so round trip. First half with my buddy who just happens to be heading to Texas, the last half either on my new (used) bike or the greyhound. Photos to follow.

Made it back, bike is super clean. It really is my dream bike. I'll give a full ride report tomorrow.......

That's Cliff, the guy I bought it from. Very cool guy. All his bikes are immaculate. He has a Versys, a Xr650L and HAD a Vee Strom. Very cool laid back guy. Were about the same height (6'4" ish, maybe a touch more).

That's me after about 240 miles of superslab @ 82 mph in 38-42 degree weather.......

GREAT RIDE!!!!!!GREAT BIKE!!!!!

I would reccomend this bike to anyone 6' and above who wants something that can just INHALE distances. I rode 420 miles with no positional rider fatigue ( I'm 6'4" 211#). No monkeybutt whatsoever stock seat. Gase mileage was 44.3@82mph. Go to 200 before the reserve turned on, with a gallon left @206. So probably a realistic range of 220 miles with some to spare.
The lights on this bike are AMAZING. I was concerned about the last leg of my journey in the dark, in apalachicola national Forrest withbthe deer in full rut. Well, not really a problem when you can spot them >1/4 mile away. Even with oncoming traffic I could take a peekaboo with the trigger actuate high beam flasher every few hundte yards to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The engine is a joy, it's smooth at speed and not intrusive at all. It exibits just enough v twin character to keep things interesting. It's barely working at 60mph in 6th gear (3000 rpm) and I would expect at least 50 mpg out of my example if I was riding with an eye towards max MPG.

This bike suits my one glove fits all needs. Commuter, hooligan, tourer and unimproved road adventurer. The other caveat is my wife is 6'2@" and fits great.

I have had some good bikes, but I am officially done shopping, I'm Rollin in a Strom baby and only looking back to check for cops :)

Woohoo! We got another one!

Funny you mention the seat's comfort -- from all the bitching and whining in the forums, you'd think the stock seat was a slab of cement topped by broken glass.

I was also a little surprised to find that the stock Vee seat is pretty comfy -- if you're not a candyass.

So more riding and eval. Hmmmmmmm, makes twisties easy/fun. Rides national Forrest two trackers sand/clay/grass well onstock tires. Even drove over some smallish trees that fell across the roads. Hits 82 @ the high side of 2nd gear very quickly (4ish?). Still getting 44 mpg with moderate flogging. Known crud, windshield......,.can't wait for my madstad bracket, coming Tuesday. A little more driveline lash than I care for, just takes some finesse to smooth out (but I am coming from a big twin, with huge flywheel mass and belt drive, so there you go).

The bike does whatever I want it to, when I want it to, how cool is that?

Surprised your getting 44mpg down there at sea level (i guess). Thats great. I'm only getting about 47 around town here in N. GA.. But then again, mine is an 05 single plug.

Friend of mine in Colorado is getting right at 50mpg on his DL1K. He"s at 8,500ft.
