Adventure/camping fold-up Rifle .22/410 scout M6
Enclosed is a walk thru development of the Springfield M6 Scout rifle. The intent of the modifications is to create a survival rifle which can be carried discretely in my pannier box on the KLR650. The rifle shoots both 22LR and .410 shotgun shells. It breaks down into 2 halves quickly and contains ample storage space for a few survival items. The gun barrels are 18.5 inches in length and if scope mounted is a known “tack driver”. These “combo” guns are out of production and hence, no longer available. I have seen them in used condition for sale for $200 to $800.

Very nice job you've done.
I used to carry an Armalite AR7 .22. In theory, a good survival rifle. In practice, it jams a lot and is not very accurate. Yours is the better choice. |

I did not know it was not made anymore.
I would give a thought to having a 22 Mag reamer run into it. Would not cost much to do and being a single shot its not like you be burning alot of shell thru it. If needed would give you a big power jump. Just a thought OBTW They use to make this little jew in 22 mag and look like it could be the bee's knees for a bike. Stainless steel and 16.5 barrel. and breaks down with one knob that screws out. Only comes in 22 LR now. http://www.taurususa.com/products/gu....cfm?series=C3 ![]() Last edited by gregg : 09-21-2007 at 06:01 AM. |

nice.
I got my son this matched set, a break-open single shot with three barrels - .22, .243, 20 ga. for Christmas for $267 when he was just old enough to shoot but now he prefers a bigger rifle. I may turn it into my pack rifle. not as light as yours as I'll have to tote two (or more) barrels but it wouldn't seem to be too cumbersome for the bike. http://www.rossiusa.com/products/pro...ory=MATCHEDSET

Great conversion!I always wanted to try something like that with a Savage model 24C "Camper" version, similar to this one but in .30-30/12ga:

Do you know the length and weight of this setup? Seems like a 20 gauge would be a good survival gun choice.

The YOUTH combo version is what you want, it has the lighter receiver. Still not light. but it comes with a soft case that will fit in a pelican 1550 easy enough. I think the 3 barrel version (22, 20, plus 243) would come in around 12 pounds with 2 scopes. I am up to 3 rossi's in the safe. not a great rifle, but a respectable trigger and a super bargain. I have $500 or less in all three of them including scopes--you can afford to let them get banged around. The one I have wanted for a survival gun would be a 45-70 and 410 combo. 410 is great for rabbits and such. A 20 gauge gets it done, the shells are probably cheaper, but they are so much bigger and heavier to carry.

KLR4755,
Very nice job! I'd like one. Too bad they don't make them anymore. |

Try a gun auction web site such as:
http://www.gunbroker.com Type in m6 scout in the search line. They have 2x M6's (one is the stainless steel model 22 hornet model) up for auction right now for ~$500. Keithm |
