But I think those emotions are like a shot of a mix of several strong and powerful emotion, occuring at the very same time. And with the magic of our brains we could be able to use those powerful current to nurrish a single one emotion, love. (no god in my talking here. I'm an atheist. only human beings mechanisms) Great Great thread ! Leave me speechless (almost). /thierry

MJ, the Lubango installments are the best yet. Just magnificent. Better than the sand and beach, and better than any of the riding. Its the people. Great stuff.
I'm from the American suburbs but lived in Jo'burg during a chunk of my 20s. Among the things that struck me, particularly when I traveled outside of the big cities, was how the 20th century and Africa could be next to each other with neither skipping a beat. The American mindset just isn't used to it. With that in mind, the picture and caption that hit me was this one: Quote:

I'm very worried that when my kids get old enough for me to do things like this, I'll feel like I'm in a Douglas Adams book. The exact quote eludes me, but something along the lines of:
Going to a different planet was like going to the town next door. It's exactly the same with minor differences... Just replace "planet" with "country" Thanks for putting this out there, it's fantastic.

Can't see properly
Sheesh! The most extreme I've done is to cough up a bit of dust after a session of riding off road. I've served on a nuclear powered ballistic missle submarine from '89 to '92, worked in Egypt, Siberia, lived in China for a year, Alaska at minus 60 as well as the deserts of Australia in high summer at +55C.
Nothing I've ever thought of compares with this epic. Well, maybe Shackleton's voyage in a row boat to save his crew in an antarctic venture gone wrong. It's probably only that I've had a glass of wine, but after reading the closing statements on page 40, I'm weeping. Sheesh! Sheesh! twodear screwed with this post 10-27-2007 at 12:45 AM |

The local people you met and pictured on your way across Angola are smiling now but I can't imgaine what they have gone through the last few decades. Thanks for showing us the human side of your ride.
