How did the XCountry do on this trip? Enough traction and clearance? Beautiful pics.

The tourances that come with the xcountry are definitely NOT the tire of choice for these type of rides but they did the trick. My (plastic) skidplate never touched a rock (at least not one that left a mark). I made it over some pretty steep rocky sections over georgia and webster pass and was really surprised with how the bike did. I was certainly not the fastest(actually, probably the slowest) on dirt and rocks but I took my time and up and over everything I took the bike on.

Hah, the only part of the trip that I did avoid going on was this:

It doesn't look that steep in the pic but it sure did look mean in person. I not confident about my bike making it up that route and luckily there was a different way around it.

So yeah, the xcountry did the trick. Oh yeah, the rear fender might not stay on on these type of trips. spicychilli knows this all too well, his broke off on his xchallenge and now has a piece of sheet metal holding his plate on. It's just too heavy, long and weak for it's own good. I took mine off after the trip and put together, with sheet metal as well, a little thingamajig that holds the plate and the turn signals (don't have the license plate light on there yet, but will have something eventually). With a little soldering, metal bending and some screwing around I ended up with this:

Yeah, the signals do point down for now once I make a couple more holes they'll be pointed the right way. I didn't have to buy any screws or washers either, just used the one's from the old fender assembly. This looks way better in my opinion too.

well first have google earth loaded.
save the .gpx file to your machine
go here http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/
browse for the gps file and output to google earth.
google earth will open & show the track.
