Talking Northern Az D/S Ride Sunday, Oct 7, 2006

Self guided D/S ride. Slab, Forrest service roads, Route 66, Lunch in old route 66 town of Seligman.
I'm new to ADV and have had the opportunity to attend 4 ADV events.
I feel its my turn to give a little back to the cause.
This is my first attempt at a D/S ride.
My mileage route might be a bit difficult to understand at first. Just stick with it and you will figure it out.
I would suggest about an 8 to 10AM start times.
Ride in groups of 4-5 to avoid dust. Please read notes on route sheet.
Start area is about 1 1/2 to 2 hr ride fron Phoenix Sky Harbour airport and 1 1/2 hr from Flagstaff.
From the south, I-17 to hwy 69 to Fain Rd to Williamson Val Rd, to Outer loop.
From I-40, S/B Hwy 89 to outer loop Rd, ( south end of Chino Valley) R/T to Williamson Val Rd.

Will post route sheet seperate.
Cut off the right side of route sheet, fold sheet showing the area you are riding and put in map case on your tank bag???
Questions?? Ask away!!

Hey Corky,

I may have to check this ride out. Not sure if you remember me but I went on a couple of your trailtalk- offroad rides up near Paulden a couple of years ago. I was on the KDX200. For this ride I'd be on my wee strom. As it gets a bit closer I'll confirm.

I'm in too. Sounds like fun!

Anyone want to go riding tomorrow? I'm bored and don't want to do housework. I want to ride.

Jim, I think I rose with you too. I was on my XRL in Paulden a couple years ago along with you, Corky, Ed on his XR600 and a guy on a KTM, right?

Hi-Jack....
There is a trials event at Alto Pit Sunday. If your not busy you might want to head that way, it's a great spectator sport!

Corky- I'll try to pencil this into my immense schedule... I know I have to leave town on the 8th for a week, so it will be ultimately up to the wife.

I could digitize this route and post it if anyone wants it (Mapsource/Garmin). Takers?

EDIT- Saw that Mike offered first... good. I tried to make sense of Corky's nonsense on my software. I'll just trust my riding companions if I get to go.

Corky -As usual I'm in. hope I'll be able to keep up with Rick and Mike on those @#&* earth movers.
Got new gear and a real gas tank ,looking to have fun.
Played with my 650l a little-287 lbs with 2 gal gas,4 gal tank and a custom built pipe.(wheelie monster)and lots of stuff removed.
Easy to ride on single track or cruise at 65-70.
Honda sure did their home work on this model.
Basically an XR600 with an "E"button, only easier to ride.

Yep, that was me- if my memory serves..I think you handled that big red pig pretty well on that tight stuff.

I'm in for this ride. Going to mount some slightly more dirt worthy tires (presa detours) onto the Strom and give it a go. It'll be a good warm up for the Chabochis Rally in Mex.

I would be in, but I think the word "pavement" appears too often in the route for me. If Mike can get those GPS tacks up here though, maybe I can decide.

I haven't mapped the return route yet but the first half is 99% dirt; I don't think you'll be disappointed. Will post up later this week.

Cheers....Mike

Yo Corky!

Thanks again for pitting for us at Laughlin.

If I wanna dual sport with yawl in a week and a half, what's the furthest between gas stops?
