I rented from Uhaul in Sierra Vista one way to LA when my bike broke down in Douglas. It's a military town so they're used to one ways.
I loaded the bike in the hotel parking lot, borrowed a ramp from local rv dealer. I would say just ride it, but the 525 may not like that. Great riding/people/scenery down there. |

Bump!
Looks like I'll need to be getting a VFR from Virginia to New Mexico. Even the small box vans are $$$. Any ideas? |

A good point was made earlier on the thread.
If you call around you may find a rental place that has a truck which has to be returned to another state. That is how to get the best deal cause it doesnt cost them money to return it too the place of origin. I would contact the larger dealers in the area you are starting with esp around airports or shipping ports/rail stations. Just my .02

I'm looking at doing the Tet from NC north to est Hartford cT or Chicopee MA. Any suggestions on getting two to three bikes back?
I'm looking at truck rentals mainly. Hertz, Avis or Uhaul etc. What are your experiences? Ideas? thanks for your help

My experience has been shop all the providers. Penske, UHaul, Hertz, etc. Both online and by phone. Get the lowest price than contact all of them again with your best quote. Then go back to the one who gave you the best quote originally and they will usually beat the others again. Penske usually wins.
Helpful tip for one-way rentals. Try providing alternative drop off cities. For example: It was hundreds less to drop off in Washington D.C. than in North Carolina. Like $500+ less. After getting to NC from Denver and anticipating having to go to D.C to drop off, the local operation told me they can't disallow you to drop off the vehicle anywhere. I left it in NC and there was no extra charge.
