Call Marty Lewis @ Lazer Racing Frames 510-638-1800 . He can make you a swingarm that will work . He did a swingarm on a Champion Bultaco that I built for a client.

Sorry, I have not started a build thread. Maybe I should start one and quit hogging the pages here.

Now back to our regular scheduled program:

I don't care where you post it, I'd just like to hear more about it.

Really sweet build. I realize you're well into it but I would be SO tempted to put an RD350/400 2-stroke in that beauty.

Picked it up cheap on ebay. It was missing the swingarm though.

I had no luck finding a Champion swingarm.

Memory told me that the Champion frame was a take-off of the early Bultaco Pursang frame.
I found a Bul Frontera swingarm on ebay. I rolled the dice and got it.
Figuring that if it were close, I could make it fit.
It is a perfect fit. It is round not rectangle, like a Champion though. I think that it will get plated like the frame.

The mock up aluminum front motor mounts took about an hour.
Making the rear motor mount aluminum templates has been a time consuming project.
I have about 10 hours in them. It's a good thing that I love doing this.

When I get all of the templates done, I will make drawings and send them off to the water-jet machine shop.

That would be my dream bike. I know that the Yamaha twin Champion frame had two down tubes on the frame. This has one. Wonder if it would come apart???

Did a little bit more on the mock up. Rear motor mounts are close.

This is the drawing of the motor mounts:

Is that Hampton Downs? What is it like to ride? Technical or fast and flowing? Must get there and have a look next time I'm home.

I don't think that it is.
It is the original nickel plating that came on some Champion frames. I am under the impression that the Champions were electroplated... I could be wrong.
The finish is close to 40 years old and was very tarnished when I first got the frame. At first sight I thought it was a painted frame. I've been doing a little polishing on it and the original finish seems to be coming back.

One way to tell if a part is electroless plated, especially a complex shaped part like a frame, is check and see if the plating is applied to all surfaces. For example, the inside of a tiny acute angle where a mounting tab meets a tube, or plating on inside surfaces.

It isn't impossible, but certainly call it economically infeasible, to get every surface on a complex part like a frame plated well using the electrical process. The only surfaces that plate are the ones facing, line-of-sight visible say, the anode.

(Electroless plating is 'electroplating' too. Electrochemical that is.)

Yes it is HD .Very technical track. Turn one is over the brow of a rise along the front straight. You start turning before you crest the brow of the rise & before you can see the corner. Takes a bit to get your head around it. Cool track , way better than Puke.

There are days when I can't find my car keys, but I looked at that pic, saw the numbers, and thought "Hately, Eklund, Goss" in a flash. Great time for racing...
