Beta 525

I was stuck here in Seattle for a week and a half. Saturday morning I went down to a local motorcycle shop that has a resturant/bar upstairs for some lunch....One of the salesmen that I had gotten to know from many trips up here was asking me about how I liked my new KLR....Actually I told him I find it a bit underpowered and heavy....Then he shows me this 525 Beta. They are blowing them out for way under their cost.....

This is like a KTM 525 on Steroids.....it would take thousands of dollars to get all the trick stuff on your bike this comes standard with....

We talked about it for a while, and it is considered a race bike but in the box are the turn signals, and other stuff to make it street legal...turns out Oregon will license them without blinking an eye....but you have to be an Oregon resident to get it registered....

Turns out I have a son that is an Oregon resident, I can see no reason an old man like myself cannot borrow his sons bike and ride in CA....So now my son owns a new Beta 525 that is licensed for the street. Will add to this thread when I come back in a few weeks and pick it up....

Yep, and I'll get away with it too.....Who is going to tell an old man he cannot borrow a bike from his son.

(Of course every time my son has wanted to ride with me he has ended up at the hospital.......He cannot understand that just because he is 35 years younger than his father, it does not make him faster) I don't let him ride anything of mine anymore. (I have had to pay the hospital bills).

Because it was registed in Oregon, NO SALE TAX either

This bike is so awsome, it is set up for rally so a digital display with remote buttons for resetting check points....hi/low speed dampening, Mitchelin Desert tires....Billet hubs, Wheel locks, on and on...I went back over today and looking at the Japanese stuff that was marked on sale for $2000 or $3000 higher than I paid for the bike, it is sweet being not part of the herd mentality. It was great to go to a bike night with 600 bikes and have the only Aprilia, but cann't wait to hit the desert with this machine....."Beta????what is a Beta????" (It is that thing that is just at the head of the dust trail you have been riding through ).

Now if only I find out how to get a pair of panyards on it so I can take some overnight runs. (There is a 3.1 Gallon tank available....so 150 mile range).

What are the functional differences between this and a KTM 525?

Great review on this bike in the current issue of Dirt Rider magazine. It used the KTM RFS engine but its chassis is unique, with a rear linkage connected to a Sachs shock. For those that don't know, Beta is a Spanish company that is known for its trials (not trail) bikes.

The Beta for 2008 is 50 state emissions legal. So Ca. residents don't have to buy out of state or pull anything funny.

Just go buy one and get a plate.

Well after almost a month of "problems" Monday my bike will start down here to SoCal.

I ordered a bunch of stuff for it as well, and it like the bike has been delayed for one reason and another, but looks like all will be here by 11/10.

I am planning a desert ride to break it in on 11/17-18 , proabably the Mojave trail or something like that.

Really excited to kick up some dust with this bad boy.

Today was the install of the "shimmy dampner". Took about 20 minutes to pull off the tripple clamp and install the riser for the bars so it fits under them.
Feels great, and should save some tank slappers in the soft stuff.

I still have to pull the right radiator and put the electric fan on, so when I do that and have the tank off I might as well install my new 3.2 gallon tank.

The bike came with a extra 14/50 sprocket set and a spare chain to fit them besides the regular 15/43 street set that was on at the factory. It also has a bag of extra hardware in case something falls off.
