Red bellies

If you ride thru bellthorpe SEQld at the moment and off the main rd, you're bound to see a couple, I snapped a pic of a 5 fter in the grass 2 weeks ago and One of my work mates went in there last weekend and counted about 5, 2 of which were angry. Something about being run over by a 300 exc didn't go down well....

And today something a little different, we were skiing on the lake and found a frilly lizard cold and near drowned In the middle, he was pretty happy to sun bake like a hot chick on the back for a while before I let him go on the bank.

I'll post the pics tomorrow, puter troubles right now.

I am glad that I haven't seen any Browns or Taipans - they are supposed to be the worst.

+1 for tents and not sleeping in the open
This thread is all about seeing snakes out in nature?

Hell, last year when I was letting the cat in from the backyard, she ran in with a live red-bellied black snake in her mouth (not hurt by the cat at all), then promptly dropped it in the living room where it started trying to hide.

What a dance that was...

Edit: oops - this is an Aussie thread. Sorry, this didn't happen in Australia, and our red-bellied snakes aren't poisonous ... I don't think.

The bloke across the road told me he had seen a few redbellies down the road.
Browns etc.
I asked him why he was wearing dirt bike trousers on his pushy.
Reckoned one of the red bellies had a go at him.
Which we agreed was unusual.
Have to watch my dog.
Get a few in the yard.
Wish they would eat the bloody bush turkeys
Hate those
Cheers

Gold! Cats are sensational bringing all sorts of gifts in for their owners. Shame I'm allergic to the damn things.

wacked

Got wacked up the back of my leg by a brown not long ago. Was walking into the office and caught the movement out of the corner of my eye. I tried to wrangle it into a wheelie bin with a stick but it got a bit agro.

Caught a green tree snake in a pile of scaffold a couple of weeks ago. Cute little thing; will post a pic soon.

Saw a 5 foot brown Saturday on the side of the road in the Adelaide Hills near my folks property, slowed down a bit from the safety of our car & it decided to have a strike at the car, was very angry with us being there..

Just prior to sloughing their skin it can make them blind (as the skin peels from their head it opaques their eyes), and they will strike at anything near them as a defence-1st / self-preservation mechanism.

Depending on the season and their growth rate, they can slough more than once a year.

Once the skin is sloughed they can see clearly again and often take evasive action as a preferred option.

~> Best not to get close enough to see what state they are at!

Not really sure. The first time I have seen one like that in the area. Full black head and on top with metallic silvery belly

Just sitting on the banks of the Murray River yesterday. My wife's on the phone to her Mum and stops to tell me there's snake behind me!!
It was only small, but I'm not brave when it comes to these things. Plus this one had an attitude.
He flattened out and kept coming at me until there was an unfortunate accident with a spade......
I told the bloke that owned the park and he calmly told me how the Tiger snakes came across the the river from the Willows on the other side and the Browns came from the opposite side in the bush........
We came home today......
