Central Florida: Charity Adventure Ride

Great Gobbler Adventure
For Foster Care Kids

Due to it's central location and the ease of which people can arrive, Tavares, FL was chosen for the Gobbler Adventure! Convinient from the Florida Turnpike or I-75, everyone can make this November 11th charity event!

An easy 1-day 80+/- mile adventure ride over dirt and paved roads through the Florida countryside. Great route for big adventure bikes, those that like to ride two-up, noobies, and anyone who just likes to ride their motorcycle! Bring your Capo, Big GS, KLR, DRZ, XT it doesn't matter! It will be a fun scenic day!

There will be stops at a local German country bakery, a winery tour, and a trip over the highest point on the Florida penninsula! PLUS, some really neat roads, great scenery, and great folks...

Date: Sunday, November 11
Sign In: 0800
First Bike Out:0900
Last Bike Out: 0930

It's for a GREAT cause:
We're collecting $10 Wal-Mart Gift Cards to be used to purchase holiday gifts for area Foster Care Children!

This ride is open to all riders, You don't have to be a DDS member to come ride the Gobbler, so that means you should come along, bring a friend, and introduce them to a great day of adventure riding, meet more folks, and show them what DDS is about!

Plus there's NO ENTRY FEE!
All we ask is that you bring as many $10 wal-mart gift cards as you see fit.

What better way to help the community, introduce folks to DDS and it's members and to our sport in general!

You have no excuses. Your friends don't have any excuses. No membership needed, no entry fee, just a donation if you are so inclined!

Begin to spread the word, plan on joining everyone else, do some riding, do some benchracing, take some pictures, make new friends.

Here Are Some Photos From The Gobbler Route...Just a day outdoors with your motorcycle and friends, doing what we love and benefiting those with less..

Tigers, KLR's KLX's, DRZ's and Cyco even had his Harley!

Two-Up Riders...

DBM in the great outdoors...

...and here's what one lady DDS rider (Cindy), said:

"My first group adventure ride as a RIDER on my new "baby"! (she doesn't like being called a toy) It was great! I enjoyed the dirt roads and scenery the most, finding the busy roads and traffic the hardest. Hubby enjoyed leaving me in his new MT-21 knobby tires dust, being able to ride fast without a rider, and riding without his "death wings" tires! I did my best to keep up with him and didn't have to put my foot down once...woowee!.
The restaurant was nice and enjoyed the view.
This was our second adventure ride with Dixie Dual Sports and we are already picking out our next one, and the next one after that and.....We hope to see other Dixie Dual Sport riders at the Gobbler ride in November and the Gainesville ride in December.
I was one of the "handful of XT225's", actually only me and Samantha, the only two women riders! Hey gals, come on and join us, it is MUCH more fun than being a passenger and puts YOU in control! I have only been riding just over a year and I really love it. And that is from someone who use to hate motorcycles and was scared to death of them! It is like riding a roller coaster, but controlling the ride!
Well, we greatly appreciate all you do Swampy and crew and are thankful that you do the work as we would not want to! Keep those rides coming and keep up the great work! TYVM! We'll see you all soon on another adventure!"

We'll see you at the Gobbler!

Well we have 20 people committed so far!

What else do you have planned for a cool fall Sunday day? Shouldn't you be out riding your motorcycle, giving to the community, and having a great time with great folks?

I thought so!
See The Who's Riding "The Gobbler" Thread Here...

While I'm thinkin' about it, why don't you print out a flyer, run some copies off and take 'em to your local dealer...that'll be cool...

Hey Swampman, me and the DRZ will be there. Had a blast at the last one, very scenic indeed! Too bad the developers are paving up the state. Pretty soon, all this is gonna be gone!

These DDS charity events are always a good time with great folks.
YFF that haven't been on one yet NEED to come. A great time to bring your significant other and your NOOB friends that aren't ready for the Flea rides.
Swampy, is there going to be a scavenger hunt on this ride? The last one I did was great fun kinda like a Geocache on motorcycles.

The cool thing about Dixie rides is you get a route chart to follow so you ride @ YOUR pace. A roll chart holder is all you need.

Swampy, is there ample parking for trailers? I kinda want to save the Knobs and will need the room to haul the KLR farkles I'm getting from you.

I'm going to try to make it, despite not having an adventure bike. Guess it's either the TW or the DRZ, the Busa isn't too fond of dirt roads.

I was thinking of making a weekend out of it - Jaydee, can you recommend a campground around Tavarres? Eustis maybe?

Either one will work ride the most comfortable one. There will be a few DRZ out there. The girls will be on TWs
The guys @ DDS probally could probally answer the campground question.
There are some good street rides around there. If you want to bring the busa along with one of the dritbikes I can PM you routes.

The wife might be riding the T-Dubya. I could bring all three as the TW will fit in the truck.

Pics

It started well. Nice briefing. Eclairs at the bakery.

And then the carnage.

Our group started with 9 and finished with 4. I believe 2 of those 4 managed to not crash, dump, lay down, or break their rides. Slackers!

Our first encounter with sugar sand claimed 3 bikes. Including this lovely Tiger.

That was one tough Tiger jockey.

A few more roads, a few more crashes...

After the "road of doom" we stopped to shoot the breeze and brush the sand off of our engines and frames.

Here are two of our cohort discussing a particularly spectactular crash.

"And then he spun like this..."

Small bikes crash too...

The thumpers were a lot easier in the sand then the pigs, but even they get tired and nap...

Here we see the victorious adventure rider after bagging a particularly vicious F650.

There was just a little scratch...

Very little damage done. Just a scratch. In general, if you are going to lay a bike down, it is best to do it in sugar sand.
