You nailed it. That's the way to do it, except it's best to go all around, doing 1/3rd
at a time to give the Goop a chance to set, then let it sit overnight between each of
two more applications, still doing 1/3 at a time.

Difficult beads can be seated by using Murphy's Oil Soap (veggie based,
so won't hurt rubber), and warming the tire can help a great deal... Setting
new tires in the sun in summer or in the house in winter can make a big
difference. For really stubborn beads, I use a blaster, like this:

Vegetable oil certainly will damage most rubbers. I wouldn't use anything vegetable oil based on my tires. windex or dishsoap (1:2 with water) works just fine for tires.

It may be that murphy's is fine as a tire mounting lube, but it's not true that vegetable oil based things are not harmful to rubber.

Edit: and second of all, the link you posted doesn't say anything about using murphy's oil soap for mounting tires. It's a link to murphy's tire mounting compound, and the companies have been separate since 1991.

is "Thick vegetable based, jelly-like lubricant"

for over 15 years. The tires are happy with it, and so am I.

I'm sure they are, it looks like good stuff. I saw the words vegetable, oil, and rubber and reacted to that. murphy's oil soap for tire mounting is a new one to me, but I only do my own tires, maybe 1/2 dozen a year, and dish soap works well enough for that.
