Un Taxi Pour Tagmoute - Another Morroco Ride

Yes indeed my friends, it was time for the gang to gear up and have some fun again .
Same 4 mates as last time : The "Fenec" and his 650 gs Dakar (a man with taste ), the "Berbere" this time on a 750 AT, the "Parizzzzien" on his 650 DR, the "Bear" on his bigbearcycle + 2 newbi : Francis 750 AT and François 650 Transalp. This will be their first motorcycle trip.
Once again we had 3 weeks at the most, so Morroco seemed to be the ideal destination.
First thing first, we needed a theme for this trip, since we miserably failed to reach Iriki last time (theme was 4 thumpers for Iriki : http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143267 ) and since there's so many Bled (town) named Tagmoute in Morroco, this time it will be : Un Taxi Pour Tagmoute (we'll be damned not to hit one of them )

We needed something degnifying so this will be our blazon :

Part of the team (the real riderzz ) decided to go down Spain to Tarifa and take a fast Ferry to cross The delta de Gibraltar. 1850 Km of freeway in 2 1/2 days, the other part of the team (the sissies ) will leave one day later and take the "love boat" in Sete 350 Km from home. We should meet them in the port of Tangier the 15th in the morning, and ride together to Marrakech.

11 th of April : The Parizzzien arrive from Paris +- 500 km on the DR.

A road trip with no goodbye party will no be a good road trip (but pictures of this are NOT showable ) And so we had a late start on the next morning, with 800 Km to go.

12th of April : Home --> Atmellia del Mar : +- 800 km.

Weather was gloomy, Météo France was predicting rain.

We didn't take much pics until the groupe was united, so I'm using still frame from the video. (sorry about the quality, good pics will come later in the trip )

But the sky cleared up and we did not get any rain.

6.30 pm, we are passing a toll booth in Tarragona (50 km to destination), The Parizzzien stops. His Bike sounds like a tap dancing festival We find a quiet spot to look at the bike.

we find theses things floating around

it is part of the cage of the "vilbrequin" bearing. This will be the end of the trip for the Parizzzien

That sucks!!!
I wish that you can carry on with your trip.
Poor Parizzien. I'm sure that you can find a good garage out there in Tarragona. Ask for it to any biker around. Sure they can help you.

We stop in a hotel, the clerk help us locate a motorcycle mecanics, there is a susuki dealer less than a kilometer from the hotel, but to get to the vilbrequin the engine needs to be completly taking appart, next day is sunday, the guy will most likely not have the part and the cost of the repair will be more than the bike is worth. The Parizzzien call his insurance they will rent a car for him to get back to paris and the bike will be send to Paris by truck

April 13th : Tarragona ---> Motril +- 800 km

After a quiet breakfast, we sadly say good by to the Parizzien,and head south under the sun.

The sissies team start their journey too.

This strech of road down spain is realy boring and scenery is mostly poor, but we are making pretty good mileage.

This time of the year this freeway is almost empty.

The guys arrived in port of Sete with no problem, but the boat has not arrived
No problemo it is time for a little Pastis.

4 hours later the Marrakech express finaly get to the port.

With François we decided not to stop in Almeria and keep riding untill we find an hotel. 60 km later we are in Motril. Tomorow will have only 275 km to Tarifa

François call the guys to see how they 're doing.

Still not on board

lots of riders on this boat.

they will not board until 2 in the morning

April 14th : Motril ---> Tangier

The sun is up, and after a long breakfast I decide to change my rear tire. I was going to do it in Marrakech, but since we have time better to do it here, where I can find extra parts if needed.

It was about lunch time when we finish changing the tire, so we ate in the hotel, and started going south early afternoon.

This part on the coast (since Almeria) is covered with plastic greenhouses, so many you can not even see any land anymore. this is what it look like from up.

On the love boat the guys are meeting other riders.

We finaly get to Tarifa, it is 7 pm so we go straight to the port.

The face of the guy when I told him we didn't have our tickets

The boat took off as soon as we got in, and when they say "fast ferry" they're not kidding, these babys rock

35 mnts later we were in Tangier having a nice cold Pastis

Time of arrival for the love boat team, will be at best 4pm tomorrow. We decide not to wait for them in Tangier and go to Khénifra instead of straight down to Marrakech, where we will meet them the day after.

April 15 th : Tangier ---> Kénifra 440 km

Quick breakfast in a café of the port.

Tangier is pretty busy in the morning, and if the town looks very european, the driving is definitly African style

we get on the freeway for a little while.

Pit stop

The sky is getting darker, it is hot and really stuffy, but it will not rain.

meanwhile on the love boat :

Public transportation :

The love boat finaly reach Tangier around 5 Pm and the guys went to Asilah, nice little town on the coast, 60 km south of Tangier. We shall meet tomorow in Marrakech....Inch Allah

Not all Hotels have parking for the bikes, but "makein mouchkil" (no problem) Marrocans will allways find a way for you, this time a desafected shopping center, the bike were safly locked in for the night.

The sun is back with us, and we leave the town after a nice breakfast "en terrace" watching the life of the town.

truck stop

this guy was coming full blast and never slowed down......

Marrakech driving

Our usual Hotel (le toulousain) being full, we went to Hotel la Gazelle, same price range +-10 Euros for 2 people, and right next to Place Jemaa el Fna
Finaly the sissies team arrive The Fénec's rear brake is not working, we'll see if we can fixe it tomorow morning.

Shower, laundry, and off we go to eat Place Jemaa el Fna. I do not like Marrakech much, but going to this place at night to eat is fantastic.

Happy Bear

On the way back we found the perfect replacement bike for the Fénec if we cannot fixe his Brake.

April 17th : Marrakech ---> Taroudant par le tizy n' test +- 200 km

Breakfast place Jemaa el Fna, it is so quiet now it is difficult to imagine it is the same place we were last night.

Quick photo of the groupe on the terrace of the hotel, with François we go look for a cyber place to put it on the blog for our family while the reste of the guys go try to fixe the brakes of the 650 GS.
10.30 everything seems to work, they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes, but fidling with it, it started working again.
Quick stop at the gas station.

and we are back in business.

pit stop in a bouib for a good tagine.

across from it, some camels and horses dresssed up for the tourists.

and the local photographer to record the moment
