the buffeting at 60+ mph with the OEM screen was terrible and at 90+ mph nearly beat my brains out... I got the Madstad bracket and a National cycles screen... along with the deflectors, that setup gives me a pretty quiet ride up to 80 mph or so, but above that I still get some buffeting... with my Arai xd3 helmet, I get less noise and buffeting than with my Nolan N43... so helmet type makes a difference also... ymmv

ride n' shoot this weekend at IAMC... looks like fun if ya like to mix ridin' and shootin'
Thx again.... I found the Madstad to be a big improvement by raising the screen and tilting back (still running the stock screen) . The negative pressure behind the screen was pretty bad making speeds upwards of 75-80 a blurry free for all as my helmet was getting slapped from side to side! I also get a pretty good blast of air through the steering head area, but I see no good way of mitigating this.... my hope is that the side deflectors might help to draw this air outward.

Travel safe on your journey south... I suspect we'll see some pics posted upon your return.

Great family pics, that's exactly what I'd like to do with Cole here in the next few weeks.

Cole is gonna be an adventurer... he has no choice... it's in his DNA!! I'll bet he loves going out with Dad in that tracker

Speaking of "for sale" I'm selling my 2000 BMW r1200c if anyone is interested in a cruiser.

Rick, when are you going to DV? I need to go to SJC leaving this Saturday. Too soon for you?

Ethanol sucks! Instead of taking a 250 mile ride on my DR today, I ended up back home after 30 miles and spent most of the afternoon cleaning the carb. I've avoided the ethanol goo until this episode. There was a little dollop of clear jelly goo in the well at the bottom of the float bowl. I always drain the carb on it if it's going to sit idle for more than a week. I use non ethanol gas in my dirt bike and all the other small engines I own. I use non ethanol in the DR when I can find it on the road which isn't very often.

Way too much maintenance for a suzuki DR Ed. You should never coddle them that much. Mine never, and I mean never gets the good gas, Never gets fthe carb drained and now by the laws of Murphy will probably not run tomorrow. But so far so good. Must be because its missing a Z in its name.

Bummer! Is there any merit to the fuel stabilizers or Seafoam to prevent that?

I would say yes... I treat every drop of Ethanol/Non-Ethanol fuel that goes into any of my bikes. I've never had a fuel/carb issue....ever.

I must be lucky. Those who know me, know that I am not exactly the most conscientious about maintenance. I have left my DRZ sit for 6 months having forgotten to add any Stabil or even forgetting to turn the petcock off on the tank, and am always amazed at how it starts right up and usually runs just fine, especially with the good italian tune up. I was even worse with my ole XT350. I've always run premium, and i know at a lot of stations the premium is ethanol free, so maybe that is a contributing factor to my luck.

Like I said, it must be a DRZ thing, they just dont care about maintenance. Now on the other hand, if I leave gas in my xr for more than a couple of weeks, only non-ethanol premium, I have to clean the jets. Gotta love the Z
