I'll definately agree with the nice tarp but I'm still struggling with the cheap tent

I'm going to order one of these

http://bigskyproducts.com/Big_Sky_Re...P_shelter.aspx

And use my nice Black Cat tarp with snake skins when a vestibule is called for.

It'll all pack up to maybe 4 lbs tops.

That BA Wyoming Trail SL still tempts me though but it's 7 lbs. and you always have to set up the vestibule so fast and light isn't an option.

OK, I broke down and bought the Big Agnes Wyoming Trail SL ... damn this addiction is expensive

Their website had a sample on sale for $375 instead of $499

https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/De...trailsl2Sample

Years ago I had a European cotton tent in exactly the same configuration but larger and really liked it. The GF could sleep and I'd sit in a chair with the cooler beside me and read a book while having a few cold ones. No wind or rain to bother you. Maybe the new GF will even venture out now that I'll have a tent you can actually sit up in.

Thanks for the tip on this tent. Was looking at it on the Big Agnes site and saw they had a sample one for 40% off at $299. Couldn't pass it up. I like that it is a "Free Standing" tent and half the weight of the Tenere.

Great price!

IMine looks so new I'd forgotten that I bought it as a 'sample'

The sleeping area is perfect for one and a bit snug for two, as usual with 2 person tents. The rest of the tents gives lots of room for gear and a chair or two.

I think it's a perfect compromise between the big Tenere and a smaller 3 or 4 pound UL 2 person tent like the Hubba.

Freestanding tents

Traveled with a friend this summer that had a Hilleberg Kaitum 2 that is not a free standing tent and he had problems staking his tent in a gravel covered camping spot in Moab. I have always had free standing tents because they can be set up anywhere.
