Yep, gonna recheck all the wires this wknd when I can get back to work on it. It might be the ground for the charging light white wire, or a low reading battery.

As did I

For my '78 R100RS, I mounted it under the left sidecover, to get better airflow, but also because it was close to the battery

So I'm thinking I have a diode board/grounding/tired wiring problem on my '74. Riding one day last week on the highway the light started to glow dimly. Verified that she stays at 12.2V when I rev it up. I did replace the diode board with one that I thought was good since it was still in the new packaging. My symptoms persist. I have read through Rick's book and think it's time for a new charging system. I don't know what my exact problem is yet, but I am thinking a new system is in order because my current one looks pretty bad. I can spend a little bit of money on a new diode board or 'x' now only to have the rotor crap on me in a few weeks.

I was thinking Enduralast before reading this thread and I don't think I've changed my mind. Just curious if a revival of this topic would bring out any info that wasn't there when this was last discussed.

The stock system is actually 'sufficient' for me since I don't run much electrics (I don't even run the headlight most days). But if I'm gonna spend cash it should be on something better.

+1 On the Endurlast.

Great gear .. easy to install ... good back up service. I too think that my bike runs better since installing .

If you aren't running any " extra " electrical gear you may save a bit of cash of picking up someone who is doing the installing and grabbing their original parts if they are good condition ... Just a thought

A tidbit of conversation at the Gathering of the Clans bears note.

Audi just bought Ducati. It is going to see if sourcing parts for Ducati's is going to be easy once the transition is over.

Well that means that VW now owns Ducati?
Or did VW sell AUDI at some point? (they bought them in 1968 along with NSU, which they quickly unloaded.)

VW didn't like rotaries??

Love my enduralast. Checked my voltage yesterday, 13.8 at idle, 14.5 on the gas.

I welcome any and all couch surfers if you are traveling through Augusta. I even have a well stocked garage for emergent repairs.

Just saw a newly added note on the EME website that the Enduralast isn't compatible with Li-ion batteries that are all the rage with the kids these days...

"Not Compatible with lithium iron [sic] batteries as supplied by Shorai."

*EDIT* My bad, they actually are LI-Iron, I always thought they were Li-Ion. But they are "LiFePO4." People are talking about trying to use Li-Ion batteries too these days, right?

Can someone explain this non-compatibility.....?

I thought "electrical current" was, ah, "electrical current".............& I thought a battery was a storage box for "electrical

current"........hmm?

Wirewrker,

VW does own Audi, but Audi is independent. Audi also owns Lamborghini. Audi went after Ducati for it's small engine and carbon fiber expertise according to blah blah I read in Auto News & Auto Week.

Back last November, I went through the Audi factory, and I came away this this: Audi does not like being under the yoke of VW. Not at all.

cie la vie.

Just a guess here based on the specs located at Shorai Power, but the specs for a battery that fits the '93 R100GS (picked my bike as an example) show that he maximum charge rate in Amps is 24. Since the Enduralast puts out 32 A max, you could theoretically fry the battery.

Basically it is as if you had an adjustable VR set higher than 15V on a regular or AGM battery.

It's kinda funny, since 450W/32A=14.0625V, well below the common "high voltage" watermark. Apparently Li-Iron batteries are very sensitive to Amperage differences instead of Voltage diffs?
