08 450 exc-R VS 530 exc-R
I'm getting ready to buy either a 08 KTM 450 exc OR a 530 exc.I'm moving from the west coast to the north east ( western Mass ).It will be used for 60% dirt ( enduros and hare scrambles and trail riding ) and 40% dual sporting and commuting.I'm a big guy..6'1" and 265# so I'm leaning towards the 530 BUT maybe the 450 would be better offrfoad ??.ANY help would be GREAT..

I will second that. Unless you are a super badass and don't get tired very easy you might lean back towards the 450. The 530 will be a little better for the dual sport riding though.

If you are going to race eastern enduros, etc....definately a 450 and that will seem like a handful at times. You will have to lower the gearing, because the street legal EXC's are geared too tall for true enduro work.
Win the lottery and buy a 690 for DS stuff and a 250 or 300 two stroke for the woods riding. |

Kinda in the same boat here. Already have the 300XC-W (absolutely fantastic!!!) - but it isn't a dual sport. Yeah I have it plated (for enduro's), but I hate running it on the road. Anyway, looking at the same two bikes.
Intent would be anything short of New England enduro type rides (for instance: http://www.knoxtrailriders.org/Video/ledges.wmv). "Aggressive" exploring, supermoto setup part time, all around bomber; also ride with my buds on 640's... I'd love the 450 for the offroad, but I suspect it won't be the better of the two SM'd? Again, for real nasty stuff I'd rather be riding a 2-s anyway. I'm thinking 530? Para504 screwed with this post 10-21-2007 at 03:49 PM |

Hambone 530
Just plumped money for the new 530 EXC from Wild West Honda here in Houston.
I love some of the castings on these new bikes. KTM are getting better and better at the CAD based approach it seems.>>>> We'll see how it holds up. Take delivery as soon as they can find an 08. Gave up looking for a nearby 07 and was too late for the first batch of 08s unless someone drops out. H
