The "It's All For Me" Tour 2007 - TN TAT and More

I haven't taken more than two days off in a row in the past four years or so, and for quite some time, I've been dealing with a pain in the ass computer conversion at work. Last spring, I was planning to do the Tennessee section of the TAT, but got screwed out of it because of work. A few months ago, I spotted a window where I could take the trip (as long as the schedule didn't get bumped again.) As luck would have it, the first weekend coincided with the Eastern ADV Airhead Rally at Tellico Plains, TN. Excellent!!! Even the gas stations were smiling at me as I hit the road!!!

I planned a route to meet a couple Airhead friends in Chatsworth, GA so we could ride together to Tellico Plains. Coming from Southeast Alabama, my route to North Georgia included no more than 9 miles of interstate, including Alabama 281 around Cheaha Mountain plus about 30 miles of dirt.

I crossed Weiss Lake, rode through Cedar Bluff, then crossed over into Georgia...

The first weekend at the ADV Airhead rally was exceptional! The thread for it over on the Old School forum has great pics of that event, so definitely check that out if you're interested. Great people, great time, great roads and scenery!!! Of course, it's a bummer when you go on the dualsport ride that Boojum took us on, and a Red Bull explodes in your pannier the first weekend of a nine day trip...

On the way toward Robbinsville, NC, I took the Cherohala Skyway and a few dirt roads just to mix it up a bit. I grew up riding in Southern California, but the Cherohala is BY FAR the best paved road I've ever done. Of course, since fall is falling, it was that much better.

Here I am crossing over into North Carolina. The bridge above me is the Cherohala Skyway. Gawd, the weather is perfect!

I think this was the highest elevation of the trip. The lowest was around 140 feet above sea level in Wetumpka, Alabama.

There are so many gaps in this neck of the woods, I guess they just can't think of new names for them...

This is Stewart Cabin. It's along a great gravel road that runs somewhat parallel to the Cherohala on into North Carolina.

Here I am at Deals Gap. Never ridden the Dragon before, but I figure everyone's got to try it once if possible. I stayed in Tellico Plains through Sunday night, just so I wouldn't have to deal with this on a weekend, but it was still pretty crowded.

The Tail of the Dragon: Begins where I am, and ends at the turnout at Calderwood Lake in Tennessee. An alledged 318 curves in 11 miles.
