I LOVE ADVRIDER and will fire another donation to baldy for all the work that goes into supporting this amazing community and site.

I have already heard from an inmate with contact info for the boys at Motorrad Unlimited.

Say - I presume your stator is 107? Is the alternator/generator what you are needing?

I am also assuming that it is a 107mm given the year but I haven't been in there yet to find out. I am guessing that it is the Stator that is bad the rotor was replaced with new a few years and 20k miles ago which is long enough that it could be bad but it is the newest part in there. I could have lost the diode board or corrupted a ground or other wire somewhere. I think the problem developed towards the tail end of a 6 hour slog in pretty heavy rain the other day.

Tomorrow in the light of day when we get back to Asheville in the morning with the tools I'll get in there with the multimeter (which was in Brevard where I just arrived at 1 am) and try to nail down what has gone bad.

time for sleep so I can evaluate with a clear head in the morning.

just saw this on FB and checked my parts stash. No parts for your bike, but it looks like you got ahold of Ivan, so you're in good hands. Keep us posted.

I have a 1983 R80ST currently completely disassembled in Knoxville. It's not going to be together anytime soon if you need any parts to borrow.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

Just pulled in at home in Charlottesville. A new voltage regulator and battery (the old one fell victim to the bad VR) saw me home in plenty of time for work at quarter to 7 tomorrow morning. Thanks all, happy riding.

Anyone have an extra right side rear plastic cover sitting around for a DR650 by chance? Mine blew off on the way back from Exit 3 on 26. Didnt even notice.
