This is a great idea. Can you add me as a "big maybe". I do a lot of camping/off-road with my jeep, this would be a first with a bike.

Michelin Road pilot tires? That's why it was so easy, try it with knobbies sometime.

Oh man, it was pics of a Death Valley trip report that finally drove me to buy a motorcycle. Too bad I can't do it on the Nighthawk. Looks like an awesome plan though.

Probably a very good idea. After all this is a NOOB Ride and I am definitely a NOOB. Besides I will be riding on Michelin Anakees or Metzler Tourances.

No worries, this is and will remain a Noobs ride. The good thing or bad thing depending on how you look at it, is that DV entails big distances. So there will be plenty of offroad and onroad rides. Just meeting up with the spa group means they may have to ride 25-35 miles just to meet us.

We will keep this a low pressure easy going ride, with one or two vehicles following and perhaps another parked in strategic places.

It just looks better and better.
My skill is none so miles aren't a big deal as long as I don't fall off a cliff.
This link is also on Chain Gang and many of the guys there who are responding are form northern california so I have no excuse, here in central cali.
now to find some panniers and some gas cans...

I posted a link to this thread on my2wheels.com. A few people are interested...I told them to post here if they want to come with.

Redbull,

Are you keeping track of all the people who are in?

I'm keeping track loosely. I know there will be lots of people coming in and out between now and then, so I'm not too worried. I doubt we'll have more than 10 bikes actually come.

I think it's about a 6 hour drive for you, so about the same as the guys from the Bay Area.
