Thinking about buying this tomorrow.... Should I Do It?
Well I've been without an adventure tourer for about a year now and I'm finally at a point where I can afford to go out and buy one. I've had a couple 640 Adventures in the past and loved them, now I'm considering buying this VERY FARKLED out 2003 650 Dakar. I know I'll like the Dakar better on the road but is the WP suspension upgrade on a Dakar enough to make it as dirt-worthey as the KTM (or close)?
Is this bike going to be as fun in the dirt as it appears? I've never ridden a Dakar off road but I have read all the info about them... Does anyone on ADV have one like this? How important are the differences between the 03 carb and 04 efi twin spark models? http://reno.craigslist.org/mcy/459427500.html neepuk screwed with this post 10-31-2007 at 03:43 PM |

neepuk, Yur alive!!!!
No bike for a year, I see why you have been gone. The BMW is no KTM in the dirt, you will find that out. But, what it lacks in the dirt it makes up for on the street, ya can't have it all

The most important factor in surviving and/or having fun off road is mass (weight). Ride the Dakar on a trail with tight turns, up/down (steep) slopes on the same day you ride the KTM. You'll know.

Yep I'm alive and kicking. Been busy satrting a new career and trying to make some dough. Made a little, now it's time to ride. I miss the 640 but I found that i didn't ride it much unless I put it in the truck and took it to the desert. I'm thinking that the dakar with good suspension will get used more often than the KTM's did...
My other option is to buy back my old 97 640 adventure with 35k miles for around 2800. Oh, I love these terrible decisions I have to make. I'm gonna ride again soon! Must be patient. Must be patient. Buy the right bike... Quote:

What's the general consensus out there on the price? Could I recover my 6 g's if I decided not to keep her for the long haul? As I said, I've been out of the loop for a little while. |

Actually, since you've been looking for bikes out west for a while...... You spot any other cool bikes up for grabs? I'm really liking the idea of catching a flight, riding the country, and being back on tuesday. |

I'm spending more than I wanted to but it looks like a great deal on one fine ride. Only time will tell if I can handle it in the dirt... Beefjerky's got dibs if for some reason it doesn't work out. Thanks Beef! Is there a dakar bike porn thread? neepuk screwed with this post 10-31-2007 at 05:52 PM |
