Ok, I'm in to support the a small shop owner. Might as well try to keep the German bike with German parts. Looking through his site and behold the other version we were discussing except crafted by Stephan. It's roughly 1/2 the cost of the larger guard (which is still cheaper than the others
- shipping)So we have a choice! Being a noob, my question is... would this provide adequate protection vs the "cage version" and would the cage keep the chain from coming off since it's sort of a guide where this might not since it's open? MXchamp...Guessing you contacted the fella for the price? Did you happen to ask him about a group discount or is that it? ![]() SCflyer screwed with this post 03-31-2010 at 07:49 AM |

To summarize, Max BMW sells the TT one for $100 plus shipping.
Twalcom sells the solid one for $110 plus shipping. The Scheffelmeier solid one for $48 plus shipping at today's exchange rate. And the other Scheffelmeier one is $87.50 plus shipping at today's exchange rate, but that's without asking him for a deal on a group buy. If somebody knows him, maybe give him a shout and see what he'll do? |

I'm a fan of the simple Sch one...does the job of protecting the case. Question is, does the other/larger one protect our right ankle should the chain jump off the pinion gear? I've been riding for 3 years only, so not much experience with that...I'd pony up to the other larger/other one if the protection is needed.
Definitely keen on group buy.

I'll be watching this to see where it goes,I'm on for the 87dollar option it looks very well made. The group buy sounds like a good plan.

Regarding the case saver: I have had a chain snap before, and I have had a chain kick off the rear. I have also seen and heard of several chains snapping and a few coming off the rear, either through lack of proper adjustment of something getting caught between the chain and the sprocket. I have never heard of a chain coming off the front sprocket. Yes they can get wrapped up round the sprocket, but only after they have snapped or come off the rear. I have confidence that the open case saver gives me more than enough protection. |

Case Saver from
Scheffelmeier ! Damn nice looking and in black!

FYI if you are willing to do it, we can each PM you and PayPal you instantly (with no fees assessed) simply by sending money to your PayPal account name. Add another $10 onto the cost for time and shipping to each inmate. Plus as Drone knows it is always handy to have somebody in your debt. ![]() I like this "covered" one because..... Not only does it save the case better, plus I don't plan on riding in clay on this bike and having to clean out the muck with a screwdriver after being buried in the mud, so I don't need the open one. And I *do* ride a lot in normal floppy pants legs or the occasional shoe lace that came un-double-tied, and can see it getting sucked into the chain with my luck. I see if you translate the page that his other $48 "uncovered" one states this explicitly: "Use only for sporting purposes and with appropriate clothing!" p.s. fyi if you install Google toolbar into your broswer, it has a button that lets you translate almost any web page language instantly... Large aluminum sprocket protection BMW G650X

Also, in fairness the $110 Twalcom one is stainless and both scheffelmeier one's are aluminum. Just pointing that out, as the prices make more sense... Personally I'm ok with aluminum. It's an insurance policy not a daily use item.
