The whole wide world is mine.

6 days, Death Valley, solo, over 1,000 miles of dirt.

I'm going to do a little exploring in this thread, on the ground and within myself. My wife has asked me a few times in the last several years what it is that I'm looking for. I'm happy in life and comfortable in my feelings about God..so I'm not looking for God or happiness. So what the heck is it? I think I figured it out on this trip. The thread title may seem a little corny, but it will make sense as things unfold.

Follow along as I go looking for myself.

I spend days wandering around in the desert here. I don't see it as motivated by any discontent but rather an interest in what is just beyond sight. I view my wanderings not as an outlet for frustration or a desire to get away, but rather an enrichment of myself.

Sometimes it's to see if something can be done. Frex, one day I wondered if it was possible to get by bike from Point A to Point B over a certain series of high ridges. I tried for months taking different routes - trying different things. Several times I got me and KLR so far up I wondered if I'd have to hike out leaving the bike but it never came to that. In the end, I concluded that there was no way short of human foot or maybe animal mule to do it.

Two years later, a friend got the same idea. He mentioned it to me and I said it can't be done. That motivated him to try as hard as he could. He probably repeated all my tries on his KLR until he too concluded it can't be done.

For some reason, both of us are very satisfied at our results. Perhaps that's really it. The satisfying adventure is the one which enriches and which you know that you did your best.

I'll watch for your posts.

Looking forward to learn something from your learnings.

I haven't learned to be alone, to go solo on anything. Everytime I head out, the way back is always the pay off.

The solitude in death valley is definite. Helps clear out thoughts. Waiting for pics.

Sorry for the slow start. I'm trying to do a better job on the pictures this time. Not to mention taking some time out to eat some birds.

I'll get things going shortly. Thanks for the nice words all.

This really explains the lure of the desert for those of us that get it. The last paragraph is the one that matters:

I'm touching up a video here and there and getting the pics lined up and ready to go..I'll try and keep you entertained as I get things started.

Heaven

I will run the streets in hostile lands

I will touch the dirt with all I have

I will breathe the air and scream it loud...loud..loud

My feet will never touch the ground

Because the days they feel like ancient clocks

Like when kids grow up

and learn to walk

Because your life is full of pure desire
A place so gloriously wired
With lights and sounds

Oh God this is such a mess

And it's like our world
But we're the last ones left

And the hair it stands
On the back of our necks

And I swear it shows
Heaven must be just like this

Do you see the hills beneath the clouds?

The stars and its trails to lead you out

Can you sense the pain? It's everywhere

And if you try you'll never care

And the love you had
When you were young
Is right outside for all to come
Because your life is full of pure desire
A place so gloriously wired
With lights and sounds

Oh God this is such a mess

And it's like our world
But we're the last ones left

And the hair it stands
On the back of our necks
And I swear it shows
Heaven must be just like this

If you see the light break through the clouds
And fire up the distant towns

Now the world will be begin
Exactly how it ends
When you call for help when you are lost
For evermore or what ever it costs
And the world will begin
Exactly how it ends

Please stay
Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Don't go
I've got you now

Are you curious?
Please stay

Here I am.

Special thanks to my brother from afar for the use of his star picture...Thank You LovemaX!!
