Alternatively set the spring on a table and set a weight on top of it and see how much it is compressed.

I came home from work early and got a new chain and sprockets, a new rear tire, and an oil change done on the KLR. It now has about 47k miles on it. I got about 12k miles out of the chain and sprockets that I just replaced and they were toast. They probably would have done better if I did a bit better at cleaning and lubing.

I also got a new rear tire put on the Strom which now has a bit more than 58k miles on it. I am getting pretty good at replacing the rear tire on that bike because I have lots of practice.

Now we just need some decent weather

If I recall correctly from your Stumbleluck report, you guys got married on Halloween (because it's scary). If I got the guy, girl, and date right, happy anniversary.

Have you seen the 10 day forecast??? 50's and sunny the entire time (in Columbus)... Doesn't get much more decent then that in November!

I'm happy about that. However the normal average highs in early November are in the 50's and then by the end of the month drops to 46. We've been a good 10 or so below normal since Thursday the 25th I think. I had a beautiful ride that day spent a good couple hours around Tiverton Center riding.

Being a cheapskate, it always pains me to replace consumables when they have any life left in them. I felt no regrets with this one.

I bought the "gold" chain because it was just a couple of dollars more and I thought it was better chain. I think it is just gold colored which looks ridiculous on the KLR. Bling does not fit a KLR.

I guess I really don't need a lot of weight to do this do I? I was thinking I needed a few hundred to make it accurate.

Probably just enough weight to make a measurable difference in length.
