Yea VMD the only place where you go from hurricane type winds and driving rain to scorching heat and humidity. The weather just sucked this year! It really drove away people, not much sales going on that I could see and lots of vendors pulled out early.

I thought my tent was going to blow out of my truck!! We did have a prime spot in the swap meet for watching people eat it in the mud on the bend and up the hill on every 2-wheeled contraption out there!!

Pretty saw I saw you riding in the swap meet. Did you have yellow dry bags strapped on the side of the dr?

From a far it looked like any other POS rolling around but once I was close and saw what was really going there I admired his ingenuity.

I used to do a trial ride just south of the bridge each year, the Phillip Bean Memorial Ride put on by the Tomahawk Trail Riders. Good people, it was always fun.

The CCC is one of the most well organized and focused groups I have seen when it comes to off road accessibility. They have done a very good job of setting up a trail system and keeping it maintained and open to the public. The riding is different up there, be prepared for sand whoops through the woods, cool & interesting. Have fun!

Anyone have old, usable WeeStrom side racks laying around?
Thought I'd check before spending money for new ones. I have some cheap MCM Electronics cases, thought I put them on the Strom for a weekend trip.

I need to fill some seats for my class this week. It is too hot & too wet for people to sign up. I need to help offset the cost of the instructors and a more full class makes for a better time anyhow as the students feed off each other's enthusiasm and excitement. It is normally $200, but I'll cut you FFs a great deal if you have a kid, S.O. or friend that needs to get their license.

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR TEMPS TO TAKE THE BRC.

Class starts tomorrow at 6pm, You can get your temps on Thurs or Fri, you do not need them for the class Wed night.

Classroom Wed, July 24th 6PM-10PM
Range (on Motorcycle) Sat July 27 8AM -2PM & Sun July 28 8AM-2PM

I'll provide the fairly new bike & can loan you a helmet if needed.

Classes are normally full, not certain how often I can make this offer.

Scott

Oh, & I won't rat out which ones of you are riding around without a license if you do not rat out how cheap I'll make it for you.

SCQTT@Yahoo.com if you are interested.

I have a 17 year old that needs to take this class but he can't make it this week due to high school soccer pre-season conditioning and tournament this weekend.

Adventure in Ohio?

Where is the class? Columbus area, I'm assuming. Might have a friend's wife that could be interested.

Never mind - they will be out of town

My latest off road adventure

I took a Gold Wing off road last night. It is a poor tool for the job; limited ground clearance, quite heavy, not very nimble, and in my particular case only steers to the right.

The story is that my wife has been asking me to find a bike that she would be comfortable on as a passenger since she has a hard time getting on and off the Strom. A friend of mine was selling an '84 GL1200 Aspencade really cheap since the charging system was not working (a big deal on these bikes since it requires engine removal to replace the stator). I fixed it up and my wife has really enjoyed riding around on the back. It is really nice great that she will ride with me now, but I really don't enjoy the bike.

Last night, I forgot to put the side stand up, turned right out of my driveway, and got up to speed only to hear a horrible scraping noise when I tried to drift left to correct for the crown of the road. I knew immediately what was going on, but I could not just put the stand up since there is a floor board in the way (one of the many things I hate about this bike). I was going too fast to stop before I ran off the road, so I tried to pick a spot to go off gently and somewhat succeeded.

You can see my path in the photo and the scrape in the road from the side stand. I managed to miss the ditch, went between the mail box and the brick wall, but I could not turn hard enough in the wet grass to completely miss the pine tree. I hit the outer boughs on the right hand side of the tree. I had my visor up since the Wing has a ridiculously large windshield, and I smacked my nose right into a branch. I was able to keep the bike upright and stopped in the middle of my neighbors lawn with blood streaming out of my nose all over the place. My wife escaped with just a pair of broken glasses. The bike is just fine. My nose looks like it had an encounter with a wood chipper, but it will heal just fine.

This has not endeared the bike to me and I think it has shaken my confidence a bit. OTOH, it could have been much worse.

Honda decided not to put a side stand safety switch on this bike. This should not have been a big deal. I have disabled this feature on my KLR and I have never left the stand down.

If you look close you can see that I fixed the charging system problem with a automobile alternator.
