I'm still a little green here myself; came over (to DS/ADV) from a Concours to a 990 Adventure just this past June. Getting to know the folks here has been fun, and they ride like I like to ride- you know, actual riding instead of just talking about it or making up sh*t. Plus, they like to meet & eat at the kind of places I like, too.

I have a neighbor who just picked up an F800, he really likes it too. I used to take my Connie onto gravel roads occasionally, and enjoyed it, but the 990 has been a whole new WORLD OF FUN for me in the dirt, mud and gravel, and I'm really digging it. Hope to see you on a ride sometime.
Hey Krumgrinder!

Sounds like we have a lot in common. I've seen 80's Concours that look just like my RT. Sounds like you have a great crowd in Columbus. I'm sure we'll cross paths. EricRat and I come up to Columbus sometimes, and we plan on participating in some dual-sport events this year. Last year I tried out some gravel for the first time on an xt 250 at the Cabin Fever Road Enduro. We'll proly try it again this year, only this time on the 700GS!

If I bump into someone from ADVRider in real life, how will I recognize them from the forum? I'm sure most of you guys don't look like your avatars! Maybe I need an ADV sticker.

They'll be giving you the finger - and if they don't, they are not to be trusted.

I look exactly like my avatar.

Over time you will recognie a combination of things, like a patina of several different kinds of dirt/mud/dust on the bike and gear, a jaunty swagger that upon further observation is a severe limp, and of course extensive knowledge about how to pick up dropped bikes in a wide range of terrain.

I am currently deep in the study and practice of this part of the curriculum.

Absolutely- just post up to this thread if/when you are coming by, that will let everyone know to watch out for you and EricRat. I spent most of my ten years with the Connie telling people it WAS NOT A BMW. But, here in CruiserLand, I just learned to take it as a compliment.

Actually, that's me on the Connie in my avatar, just really far away in Canada. Oh, and yes, I do believe it is a requirement of the board that posting members must display the ADV sticker somewhere on their ride; there is one available somewhere (Benly got mine for me, not sure which inmate was supplying them) that has the ADV logo over a silhouette of the state of Ohio- very high cool factor, especially when you ride out of state or country.

I only ever put a handful up. There is still one from the first run tenaciously clinging to the stop sign at 79 and 541 near Nellie. It's weathering well.

Jon has the torch now. Personally, I think the new ones are too big, but I'm not the designer, printer, or financier, so my opinion is insignificant.

Well, that's nice. Those are the better ones anyway!

If someone needs some of the small ones, I only ever used two out of my stash. I resisted the temptation to put one on my wife's van just to see if she would get the salute.
