Around the world advrider mascot relay - Bacon's journey

This is the offial blog for Bacon (the pig) travelling around the world by advrider relay. To read about the pre-trip planning or would like to be part of the relay, please say so here.. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265066 and keep watch on where Bacon is up to around the world. if he gets close to your home, yell out. The above link also contains the rules for the relay although i'd like to think of them as 'guidelines' than rules.

So lets begin........

Talking Day 1 - 24th Nov 2007 Total Km - 460

It was an early start for bacon on day 1. Bacon and I left my house at 5:50am.. I tried to talk bacon into riding in my tank bag but he wouldn't hear of it so I strapped him safely onto my rear rack. Bacon was wrapped.

We headed off through Geelong and towards the start of the ....

We continued on and the day was perfect. Virtually no traffic and the sun was shinning....

We got to lorne and continued onto Apollo Bay.

For those who dont know what the Great Ocean Road is like, I asked bacon to do some filming why I put the Dakar through its paces...
I tried to embed the video but couldnt get it to work so a link will have to suffice...
http://www.youtube.com/v/gWO7p8mSGgM

Then we managed to pass 10 speed signs in just over a minute...

We headed to Apollo Bay where we met up with fellow ADVRIDER Crozz. together, the three of us headed North into the Otway Ranges area. Bacon was loving it. he was already covered in dust from the dirt roads and you couldn't get the smile off his face...literally.

We stopped at a mobile tower for a quick look..

and then to check the map..

Of course Bacon didnt believe we knew where we were going so he had to check it out...

He was happy we werent lost.

Bacon couldn't stop taking his eyes off the advrider sticker. i think he'd really love to have his own badge...

It was then a very casual ride back to my house. Bacon was very pleased with his first outing and can;t wait to hook up with prestonpaul for his trip heading North..

Stay tuned......

Starting Km's - 0
Finish Km's - 460

Hooray for Bacon! Mr. Happy Puppet is looking forward to a riding partner!

Whoever ends up taking him through W Montana should try to get Bacon across Beartooth Pass. He might get a bit chilly, but I think he'll like the views!

In short, don't be put off by F800GS reliability reports on the net, or any reliability reports on the net for that matter - a few posts get cross-referenced and before you know it, your electric toaster will kill us all on 31/12/99...
The plural of "anecdote" is not "data."

So, just "north"? Does prestonpaul have a plan? What time is he going to have Miss Bacon in his tent by at night? ANd what the HELL is he doing taking her into the Outback on a motorcycle and sleeping with her in a tent! IF it's sleeping at all. Harumph!

Holy Moly, I'm going to spend the next year worried sick about a pink pig puppet!

I begin to fear for my sanity.
