After Crinan we headed along to look at Dunadd where the ancient kings of Dalriada were crowned, Bacon reads up on the history.
![]() Then races on ahead. ![]() When the kings of old were crowned they placed a foot in this footprint carved out of the rock- Bacon tries it out for size.. ![]() Now, we knew it was a risk giving him the Skean Dubh but that, the scenery, kilt and fresh air must have got to him because he leapt into the footprint and declared himself ruler of Dalriada..... ![]() The new king surveying his domain. ![]() All the king making had made him hungry but the shop was closed so he'll have to wait to try out these particular Scottish delicacies. ![]() Instead wee took him to the best place in Argyll for lunch - The Krafty Kitchen in Ardfern where Bacon got to meet the owner Taryn,a fellow ozzie. ![]() A spot of light lunch... ![]() To be continued..

The weather had taken a turn for the worse today with heavy rain but a chance of some decent surf down on the Mull of Kintyre - if the wind held off, so Bacon and I loaded up an headed on down towards Campbeltown .
A surf check shows us it's really blown out... ![]() So Plan 'B' is brought forward - a visit to the Springbank Distillery... Since this is Bacons first visit to a distillery he couldn't have chosen better, Springbank is the only distillery that makes and bottles it's whisky on site- from start to finish- and they don't filter or colour it like most others do.. Pete from Springbank welcomes Bacon onto the malting floor. ![]() This is the kiln that uses peat to smoke the malted barley. ![]() The mash tuns - he's getting excited by the wonderful aroma... ![]() The heart of the operation - the stills ![]() To be continued

Sounds like a top day out for Bacon. Did you buy any whisky when you were there, Wully? |

So after a long day on the Mull of Kintyre, pig and man were in need of proper food and it needed to be something that complimented the whisky Bacon had obtained from Springbank.
There could be only on choice: Haggis , neeps and tatties. ![]() Served up with his own bottle of Springbank, taken from a Quaich He's heard tales of what a haggis is and was a wee bit unsure - until he tasted it... ![]() There was no stopping after that first mouthfull and he was very glad to find out he would still be able to get haggis Mail Order After supper things started to go downhill, AND had obviously taught Bacon some bad habits that I fear his visit to Skye will only reinforce... ![]() And it got worse ![]() He really will have to learn to pace himself. Poor wee porker is now tucked up in bed and will have a very sore head in the morning. To be continued.
