I saw Vic in person back in '62...Fort Benning, Georgia. I was just a kid and the 2nd Infantry Division was having a big centennial celebration and invited him as a guest. They made him an honorary Sergeant. My mom got his autograph (still got it somewhere). He was a pretty nice fellow and talked to a lot of people. That was probably the only time I saw a divsion in a "march in review"...while the troops marched past the review stand, I snuck into the big tent and ate icing off the big cake. Still got a few commerative indian head pennies from the event.
