After going through two filament bulbs on my 09 GSA, I went with DDM HID Kit, 35W, H7, 4500K back in April to replace the low beam. No LAMPF. Works great.

Mike and Chris....thanks for the feedback.....apparently I was being too proactive and should wait the 1offmotorsports HID's to arrive!

No sweat, Chuck. I'm waiting for my 1-Off unit to arrive, too. I'm converting the high beam. I did the low beam some time ago and noticed my high dollar bright white bulb did absolutely nothing to enhance visability. I think you'll like the 1-Off unit.

I cannot get the 35w HID to work on my low beam. I thought I had a bad bulb so I exchanged it and I get the same thing...it flashes at start up and then goes out. anyone else had this issue? HIgh beam 35W works fine.

That's weird....I bought the same kit and can't get mine to work on the low beam side. I have a 2011 GS...seems something changed in the DDM ballast or BMW made a change.

I tried hooking up a larger sized ballast to it that I had left over from a kit I installed on my old F800 a few years ago and it works! So for some reason the low beam does not like the slim ballast. So had a tough time shoe-horning the larger ballast into the GS, but I finally got it installed, so looking forward to the dual HID beams!

My first HID unit finally did that. It was a DDM unit and worked fine, at first. When I got no satisfaction from customer service, I switched to a VVME and had problems with it, too. I settled on a 1-Off 35 unit and have had no problems since.

Yeap in hindsight, the proven 1-off model backed by customer service is the way to go. When I called DDM they told me to solder a resistor in the stock bike wiring....bah, not going to do that, so I installed my old large sized ballast and that works, just not as elegant as the slim ballasts. So bottom line for others, deal with 1-off that has tested their ballasts on BMW bikes and will back them up.

It seems like HID's are a no-brainer in terms of light output, but how badly is the beam pattern distorted? Is it just a matter of adjusting the headlight height, or is the beam pattern too badly distorted. I want more light, but not at the expense of a badly distorted beam pattern.

Thx, g-

It depends on who you talk to. On my 05GS I found the light pattern very similar to stock. Some claim the light is way scattered, while others claim it has too sharp a line.

It sounds like a $100 experiment is in order!

On my 05 the beam pattern is great with my two DDM kits. Best upgrade ever.

Wow, took my first ride in an area without street lights after dark tonight and the HIDs are awesome ....they light up the road much better than the stock lights....very happy! I have 35W... I can't imagine how bright the 55W high beam would be. Only small negative is that it does take a few seconds for the high beam to get up to 100%, but not a big deal at all as I think the light is still brighter than stock when first illuminated.

Installed 1offmotorsports 35W 6K low beam today. Any magic zip tie tricks for placing high beam ballast and igniters on a 2010 GSA.

Oh yea, works as advertised!

Zip Tie Magic for Install.

Glad you like it! Have you seen the install video for the 1200gs. it's on our youtube channel. Which I'll add to our profile page here on the forum. I've seen the mount done a lot of different ways. based usually on preference and also what other modifications have already been done in that that area. Typically I use the mounting plate and the zip ties to wrap around the frame. Low beam and high beam on opposite sides of each other.
