West coast to S America: shipping costs

I have Jan-Mar 09 free for a trip (maybe Nov-Dec 08 as well). I live in Oregon, and have strong family ties in Costa Rica, and I've traveled some in Central Amerca / Mexico. Now I'm itching for S. America. I'm thinking of shipping the bike from West Coast (Portland, Seattle are closest to me) directly to S. America (pacific coast). Any idea on cost / shipping? Where best to ship to?

I could ride to CR and Panama and then cross over by ship/air, but I want to spend as much time as possible in S.Am. Would like to spend minimum two months there and then if time allows, jump the pond to CR and ride back home. If I run out of time, I would probably leave bike in CR for future trips and fly home from there, or ship back to OR.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Go over to http://www.horizonsunlimited.com and check out their info on shipping bikes. They reports with cost, carrier, a rating, comments and a lot more. Best place for info I've found so far.
