Pretty much the same view a week before when the air in valleys was seriously chilly :)

OK, spot the deliberate mistake time - I was surveying trails for my HISS rally next month when this happened:

Last july in Don Quixote country - question, who was the madman :)

In the deep south of Andalusia- amazingly this isn't Morocco!

Nor is this :)

FYI, this is a place called the Cabo de Gata, where the Straits of Gibraltar turn the 'corner' into the Mediterranean proper, the mountains and the bay are all that remains of an enormous volcano!

PS these photos were taken within 24 hours of each other - it could have been the same day but I got up early to catch the Cabo de Gata shortly after sunrise

Thanks Leafman,

These were mostly from last year's big trip when I rode from the extreme north-east at the western end of the Pyrenees - ridng pretty much all of the Pyrenees to get there :) and down to Cabo de Tarifa, where you can almost toss a stone over the Straits to the Riff-Mountains in Marocco!

Needless to say I didn't do this in a straight line, but sadly I slipped out of the discipline to post it all up in my blog. But I'm going to try to put all this straight over the next few weeks as I have a 'window' - that is to say, no b****y work in the order book!

PS - if you're wondering why I didn't pop over to Marocco while I was down there - so am I!!!

Beautiful pics

For the stalling, I've collected all the posts I could find on my LINKS page. Search for "Cold stalling", there's a ton of suspects unfortunately.

Yes and no from Cabo Tarifa, the rock is quite some distance further into the Straits and on a hazy day details merge into the mist.

I came down a fantastic road from Ronda, well inland, and hit the coast at Algeciras - by far the best way to reach that part of the coast, which is horrendously built-up.

I have no particular interest in Gibraltar but I guess I say it over my shoulders as i rode westwards - it was also a horrible hazy day so the scenery wasn't as dramatic as it could have been - far better to be there in wintertime i expect!

For what it's worth: there are lots of crossings over to Morocco, including from Gib, but for my money I'd go from Malaga, which is a lovely city to spend a night in waiting for your boat, in contrast to the other crossings which are in real dumps of places.

Thanks a lot! I've actually had your page stickered to the top of my browser.

I removed the canister. No dice.

Seriously considering trading her in now. Maybe a Yamaha WR250R...

Check the clutch switch at the clutch lever.

Got the running badly sorted out. Turned out to be not enough free play in the throttle cable, thought there was enough but no. Anyone fitted a digital tacho, the ones that have a wire that wraps around the spark plug lead? The only ones I have seen are fairly small, I dont want to watch it all the time, just every now and again, so the small ones might be alright. Next question is how do I get to the spark plug? Do I need to remove the airbox? It seems well hidden.

Sadly, yes. It's a horrible part of the design and makes changing plugs a miserable experience. Learn from my mistakes, some plugs have a screw on part at the top as an adapter and some have that part permanently fitted. You need that part to fit the plug cap and sometimes that little bit rolls off due to vibrations. Make sure you have plugs that have that permanently fitted or else put on a blob of solder or thread lock. When they roll off you get running problems as I had. The worst offenders are Iridium which are actually the best plugs for the bike. In other words, whatever you do down there, do it carefully as it can make a big difference.
On the plus side, don't bother fitting all the screws, you only need about half in the airbox and it makes the job far easier in future. Also, if you've not done it yet, the top cover of the air intake, the panel that covers the filter is surplus to requirements. Remove it, throw it away and you'll get a little more power and slightly better economy. No adjustment required, the bike is smart enough to do it for you.

Thanks for the conformation of my worst fears. I think I can live without a tacho for the moment, it can wait till I need to replace the plug.
