Saab, The GCR`s for the Dakar prevent the use of any other bike`s than single cylinders, as the Aprillia is a twin .......mmmmm........ I hope that answers your Question .

Cheers Alan

sorry dont think it is quite right, there is a 450 Aprillia entered for this year, see
http://www.bmwgs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186962

I think it is no twins over 500cc is the rule.

Hi Guys,

Yes this is correct, below 450cc twins are ok for the Dakar. Waiting on the rules from the FIM in regards to the Cross-Countries World Championship Events.

Cheers,

Christophe

Hey Christophe, if your going to try and get sympathy sponsors, claiming you are a one armed man attempting the Dakar - you need to hide the same arm in the pics, ok

Today CBV and myself went for a mountain bike ride.

If there are any Central coast, Newcastle, Sydney guys keen for a pushy ride in the future just pm me and I'll post up when the next one is on.

They should be fairly often, especially next year, as CBV and I want to get even fitter for Dakar '09.

I want to get fitter so I can do the lounge chair - fridge - lounge chair dash before the ad breaks are over, while I watch the race highlights at home.

Anyhow, the ride today was I nice easy one, on a section of the great Northern walk.

Thankfully, it didn't involve carrying the bikes up and down near vertical gullies, or riding/walking the bikes up steep hills or having a severe thunderstorm in the area - with lightning strikes close enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It was just a nice blast on flowing twin and single track, honest.

Anyhow, we're going again on Wednesday or Thursday if anyone wants to come for a ride. Send me a pm if interested.

^leech 1 (lēch) Pronunciation Key

p.s. I have listed all the names of the people that have donated toward the Dakar Rally campaign on my website. Thank you very much, you are now part of the Australian Rally Team!

Thats right, I forgot to mention there was no leeches on the ride.

And there wasn't any small hail stones falling at the end either

Hey Cristophe, sorry I can't afford $100 at the moment but I've sent you $10 you can maybe use it to buy some disinfectant to clean your seat after Matt sat on it .... he's used to riding a BMW so probably soiled himself when he sat on a REAL bike!
Good luck with this and all your future projects!

There was a great ride report a while back where the writer crashed out in the Dakar and the story was so inspiring he started to receive sponsorship from people at $10 or $20 a pop with all the names of the donors going on the bike in fine print.

Now let me see... $250,000 / $10 = 25,000 ADV sponsors! I can probably spare $50!

Thanks Steve, you can make a donation on the www.australianrallyteam.com website. A component of it will go toward the "Dreams Do Come True" foundation.

Cheers,

Christophe
